I know there's already a few apple linux threads, mostly quite pessimistic.

Does anyone know if there is a linux distro that works well with the ibook.

I know that there are plenty of PPC distros, but I've heard rumours that there aren't any drivers for the airport card in the ibook?
Does this mean that there's no possibility of using linux on the ibook with a wireless network?

I know people might reply bemoaning linux, I know that OSX / BSD does everything linux does, often better, but I use a lot of linux in university and would like to have a portable linux partition.

Thanks

I once downloaded a version of Yellow Dog Linux that looked promising, but never got around to installing it.
Sorry if that doesn't help you much, but afaik YDL is an official Apple OEM - that should make it worth a look, at least.

Just out of curiosity, what features of Linux do you use at school that aren't available in Mac OS X? Are there specific software titles?

At NCSU, they're always saying "compile this in a Linux lab" and "do that in a Linux lab" and so forth, but I've yet to encounter anything that Mac OS X doesn't handle admirably aside from some poorly-written makefiles.
