I am running Mac OS X 10.4.2 on a 1.8 iMac G5.
I have Quicktime, Windows Media Player, VLC and MPlayer OSX. What happens with me - and probably with some of you since I+ve read a similar thread somewhere - is that lately it's almost impossible, or really impossible to watch a wmv stream on safari, and also reading from the disc. WMP just pops up a message saying some codecs are missing or that it doesn't recognize the streaming... I tried to solve this by uninstalling and installing back WMP but didn't work. It would be fine if MPlayer or VLC played the files but these don't either. MPlayer plays some but with stuttering sound and image etc..

Any ideas?

thanks in advance!

Got a link to the problem streams for others to confirm, or are they *cough* NSFW?

Some WMV quirkiness is due to Microsoft DRM or generally crappy codecs exclusive to windows.

Tried Flip4Mac?
If that won't, and VLC won't, and DiVX won't, and WMP won't, you might have to take it up with Redmond.

I would have to send you all the WMV I have on my HD! Streamings..probably every WMV streaming..no, for sure, every WMV stream. :/

Flip4Mac? That one isn't free, right?

I really don't get it...and now I can't listen to the songs on Myspace. grr

MySpace...

Of all the things to complain about regarding MySpace, I think missing out on the music would be last on my list.

I meant the music on the artists' profile, not the background music on the personal profiles..

anyway, since I rebooted VLC has been playing "most" of my WMV files, but I still can't get sound of any flash movie or animation or, as I mentioned, the Myspace player. I wonder what made this happen. It's some problem with the flash plugin?

Honestly, I'd bet it's just a case of really badly-written code on MySpace's end. As was recently discussed here, the MySpace templates have hundreds upon hundreds of coding errors. It's a miracle that any of the pages display decently at all!

Flash is different from WMV. Are you having problems with Flash or WMV or both?

The validation result from the MySpace site link in that thread. 582 errors. I know nothing about MySpace, my I don't think that the sites are individually coded.

I know this might sound pretty obvious, but have you tried updating Flash and turning your sound louder?
