Well I sold my 12in PB 1.5 in anticipation of an update. Well we all know what happened with that. I have decided to save my money, but still want an Apple laptop to get me by this school year.

I have been thinking about picking up a iBook G3 12in 500 on eBay for ~$300.

I need it to be able to do the following:

*Run Panther
*Run M$ Office OSX (Word, PowerPoint)
*Run M$ Remote Desktop Client
*Surf the WORLDwideweb111111!!
*iTunes
*Some light PhotoShop

Will this fit the bill?

Does anyone suggest a different Apple portable that can be had for less than $400?

Does the ibook have a Combo Drive? If so you can run Tiger on there, I do on my ibook G3 500 with 256 RAM. If its just a CD-ROM drive you can run Panther on it no problem, my sister does. Mine is a little low on the RAM I know, but it works with Tiger! I'd say $300 is a good deal, if it has an Airport Card.

My only mac is a 600mhz DVD icebook, 640mb of ram, 10.3.9, 60GB HD, 8MB video

Not quick as lightening but pretty darn cool and usefull.

if i could span the desktop to another screen at 1600x1050, I would be happier though.

typing on one now...
what can I say, it works! More over it'll run everything you've listed there just fine, just max the RAM.

Thanks for the replys thus far :)

Ok how does this sound:

600 Mhz 12in G3
384 MB RAM
30GB HD
CDRW/DVD Combo Drive
OSX 10.3.9 disks included
AirPort Installed
Very Clean and in good shape
w/ Orginal Box

$425 in my hand

Does this sound like a fair deal?

For the 600Mhz, and Combo Drive, Airport (which sells for around $100 or more on ebey), OSX 10.3.9 discs etc. I'd buy it in a second... sounds like a good deal to me.

That sounds very much like the one I'm typing on right now (700 Mhz,640 Mb). The maximum memory on that model is 640 Mb, which you should definately get for ? $100. You might be able to sell the 256 Mb module that's in there, so the extra memory really wouldn't be very expensive.
