The media onslaught for this turd of a film began in earnest this morning and I've been desperately switching channels attempting to escape it. It's hard to watch people pushing a movie that is so clearly destined for ridicule and bargain bin clearances. They didn't even use the comicbook for Kane's sake. Gah!

The last two three movies I've seen ("Spider-Man", "Anchorman" and "I, Robot") have all had this trailer. And it's one of those "ooh, they're trying a bit too hard" feelings, you know?

Got the silly CGI/running up the wall and pouncing around stuff, the "heavy" soundtrack music (some faceless band doing the whole de-tuned, earnest growling routine), Berry looking quite sexy and enticing, etc.

I see it and I just go "oh, please...you suck. You know you're gonna suck...".

:D

The best part is Berry walking really slinky-like and cracking that whip. That never fails to make me think rude thoughts. And I didn't know Sharon Stone was the short-haired blonde in it.

Now, any other time a movie featuring TWO short-haired vixens fighting and going at it, I'm SO there. This one just looks completely unwatchable. Sharon Stone gets sexier by the year, but holy crap...what a horrible actress. And I tend to think Ms. Berry is a tad overrated too. I've seen nearly everything she's been in (including "Monsters Ball") and she's never really struck me as anything special at all. Beautiful, no doubt, but I've seen better acting on QVC.

Gotta wait 'til next summer and see the real thing (http://www.batmanbegins.com).

Rated "A" for "Abomination".

have you seen the Jaguar commercial where "hit 'n' run" halle* appears to fellate the jag's hood ornament?

but i think it's hilarious that some automobile manufacturer would let her endorse their cars.

*she pled no contest to hit and run in 2000.

Actually, I think the best description of this movie is simply 'Scatwoman'. Simple, short, to the point.

This one has 'turkey' written all over it in big brown dookie smelling letters.

We fans are disappointed.*

*I'm a huge comics geek.

I think all comic/superhero movies tend to suck. Spider-Man is probably the best among them all, but even it is merely "good for a comic book movie".

Movies like this now get tied down in stunt-casting, fast-food tie-ins, MTV premieres, overhype, toy/merchandising considerations, etc.

They become about everything in the world except a good movie.

For all the talk and claims to the contrary, I know that by the time time "Batman Begins" rolls out next summer (a supposed "serious take" on how Bruce Wayne became Batman, with Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Rutger Hauer, Liam Neeson, Morgan Freeman and Gary Oldman...a kick-ass cast of solid, serious actors by ANYONE'S standard) it'll be re-shot, "jazzed up" with more CGI "action", a ham-handed romance (to draw the chicks) will be worked in, some idiot band like Nickeldick or Limp Korn or whoever will do the "main song". There will be Taco Bell tie-ins and silly-ass toys all over the place. Any inklings of a dark, serious and dramatic take on the whole thing will be cheesed-up and "made so the kids will dig it" by idiot studio suits and WB marketing/PR.

And we'll be right back to Joel Schumacher territory, all over again, with yet another crappy Batman movie they could've been so much more. I have no faith in these kinds of things. Why should I?

Someone should hand ME the fucking Batman franchise so I can show them how to do it right...

This movie would only be worth seeing if Catwoman was attacked and maimed by the giant rabbit. (http://www.local6.com/news/3547722/detail.html)

No shit. I'm serious: you could put a five dollar bill in my hand outside the theatre for the weekend matinee and I wouldn't go. That's two hours of my life I'll never get back!

I'd go. If somebody paid me. I'd need about $10 plus gas, tickets and popcorn.

You're looking at about $55. Screw gasoline, have you seen the prices for movie theater concessions?

8oz. of pure Coca-Cola refreshment...$7.25!

"Ooh, I'd like some Twizzlers, but rent's due next weekend...".

 funny cause it's true. Than again, it's not funny cause it's true.

My girlfriend wants to see this one. I'm attempting (however poorly) to mask my extreme distaste for this movie. I can only pull it off so long, I really don't want to see it.

Really.

Consider it me doing Halle Berry a favor.

And to hear someone else speak as passionately about old Bats brings warmth to this blackheart (http://www.drewprops.com/code/fieldnotes/batman.html).

Really. I can find pics of her all over the internet, but to watch her try and act? In *this* steaming pile? Nuh-uh. So not worth my time.

My thoughts exactly. Sure, she's a very beautiful woman. However, I don't really enjoy her much as an actor. And I'm not even attracted to her enough to blow a huge chunk of change on this film.

I'm SO there. :)

And that is an INCREDIBLE story, Drew. A great read. And the reason you submitted was great too! You get it.

:)

I'm hoping, in my lifetime, someone does it right. I have good hopes for the one coming next summer, but I'm also a realist...and all the things I say in my earlier post can't be discounted.

:(

If I were filthy rich and a few million to spare, I'd make THE definitive Batman flick. And I bet it would be better than the four turds currently in existence (even Burton's, when you step back from the whole "oooh, Tim Burton!" thing, weren't really that good...lots of holes, sputtering scenes and writing, a "tacked together" feel in places, the inevitable stunt-casting, Prince doing the soundtrack, etc.). And don't even get me started on the two Joel Schumacher crapfests...

:D

Yes, let's clean up Gotham...I'll fire up "the car".

As for this "Catwoman" thing, I've yet to hear ANYTHING good about it.

That has to suck, as an actor or director or whatever to put that much time into something, knowing, upon completion, you've just devoted 3-12 months of your life to a DOA pile that no one cares about or wants to see. Ouch!

Oh well, if Halle or Sharon need comforting...

Julie Newmar: Meoow baby. Purrrrrrrrrr. Let's groom.
Lee Meriweather: Kittenish, but not Newmar
Eartha Kitt: Hisssss. <raises fur>
Michelle Pfieffer: PVC purrfect. Who wants a tummy rub? Will leave clawmarks.
Halle Berry: High maintenance methinks. Bad kitty who looks good.

See for yourself (http://www.super-highway.net/users/altoot/catwmn07.html) or maybe catch the Biography on A&E (http://www.biography.com/tv/listings/catwoman_new.html)

I met Julie Newmar at a sci-fi convention back in the early 90's. Yummy even then!

I have not, but it was because I didn't much care for her previous work. Although I have heard good things...so I may see it sometime soon.

Nope, not at all. Just a shockingly realistic/graphic sequence for a mainstream movie with mainstream actors.

I had to watch it 4-5 times to make sure I was seeing what I was seeing... :D

Daredevil anyone?

Spider-Man is probably the best among them all, but even it is merely "good for a comic book movie".

Correct, it's OK, but that's it. The CG-Spiderman sucks. Though, it's not as bad as The Hulk...

I certainly won't be seeing the second one in the cinema, I'll wait for the DVD and rent it from Blockbuster. m. :)

You know, the interesting thing about the first Spidey movie was that I was first put off by the CGI version of the character, but as the play moved along it got better and better and it didn't bother me as much. The second Spidey was a little better.

They can't all be winners, but it's a sad day when people who don't know comics are loosed on the material...and realizing too late that they've seriously bungled said material, claim that it isn't based on the original character. They wouldn't have been able to make a movie if they hadn't licensed the character...who do they think they're fooling? meh.

I need to track back and follow the Batman link that Pscates tossed up here.

Meanwhile, enjoy yourselves looking through these comic vaults (http://www.cgccomics.com/gallery/).
