OK, I'm not sure if this is the right forum or now. But I'm trying to figure out how to make .ico files for my site, to put the little favorites icon in place.

Can Photoshop do this?

EDIT: Sorry I just found a Photoshop plugin on Google, you can close this topic now.

...

Or not...

I saved the file and put the meta in to insert it but it's not working.

Affected page is http://www.extremepki.com/index.php

I take it that you are trying to create a favicon. Simply save the file as "favicon.ico" and put it in your websever's htdocs folder (if hosting locally). If you are hosting your file on a remote webhost, put the icon in the main directory that your site is in.

I put the file in as well as the little line of code to make it display on all browsers, just the same as I've seen several sites do.

Firefox and Flock display it, but Camino and Safari do not...

Edit: Safari displays it now. Camino still does not.

Are you making the .ico files correctly? Some tutorials say you can just take a .bmp file and rename the extension, but that is INCORRECT.

Also, it's usually best to name it favicon.ico and save it in the root level of the web site because most browsers will check there by default even if you do not include the link tag. AppleNova, for example, doesn't include the link tag for a favicon, but most browsers pick up the file anyway.

You can use this site (http://www.chami.com/html-kit/services/favicon/) to make a real favicon from an image. It even gives you instructions once your done.

OK, I figured it out...

The Photoshop plugin was faulty. I opened up GraphicConverter and found it has built in .ico support. So I make it there, put it in root as favicion.ico and insert the HTML, and it works!
