I didn't notice a thread on this already but I just downloaded the Java Developer Preview 4 and Java 1.5 is now the native java version at least according to the CL java -version. So if you are stuck using java like me 1.5 if finally here and we are back with the rest of the world.

Hasn't Java 1.5 been in OS X for a while?

The real question is... will it ever be released for Panther ?

I dont want to write java apps that work on Linux and Windows but need to be back ported for Mac users.

Not everyone wants or needs to upgrade their OS, my mum for example, the only way Tiger is finding its way on to her hard drive is if I buy it and install it for her.

*grumble*
