Time to hit those Software Update buttons, kiddies. :)

iPhoto 4.0.2 addresses minor issues with Smart Albums and European books, and provides notification when new versions of iPhoto are available.

It's 7.1 MB... installing now.

It went well for me. The app took a while to load the first time, but other than that I didn't notice any changes.

Cosmetically it looks no different. At least from here. Speed seems the same. There is a new option in the "iPhoto" menu to "Check for updates" but I'm not sure if that's been there all along or not.

The important thing is, I don't think the update broke anything :)

It fixed a problem I had with Smart Albums. If I wanted photos that had any of three keywords, it previously would also include photos with no keywords.

i.e. It used to be:
If ((keyword contains "A") or (keyword contains "B") or (keyword contains "C") or (keyword is empty))

Now it's correct:
If ((keyword contains "A") or (keyword contains "B") or (keyword contains "C"))

6 installs so far, nothing bad so far, and it corrected a client's problem with iPhoto 4.01 that was unexpectedly quitting upon launch.

Previous to 4.0.2, that was a hidden preference, you had to modify the .plist file. Steve "on the painkillers" Jobs must have though it would be funny to have it enabled by default.

Now that they've pulled it, I'm worried. Luckily it didn't wipe my drive or anything (if anyone remembers the iTunes fiasco for people with spaces in their drive names) but I don't think I'll be running iPhoto again until the 4.0.3 (or 4.0.2.1) update.

Wow that is weird, I did however notice that iPhoto take a very long time "(like... 10-20 seconds) to quit.

Mine loaded really quickly, but it took a good 15 seconds to quit.

How big is your library?

I have a feeling it has a lot to do with that.

Its tiny, ~1gig. I think your right, anyone with a large library would have noticed a difference.

Dang. I have been hoping for an update ever since 4.01 turned half my previews white (or did they just stop supporting TIF?). Hopefully 4.02, the late edition, will be worth waiting for.

4.0.3 is now up.

4.0.3 is now up.*dives in head first*

It appears to be working fine again for me.

And the 4.0.2/4.0.3 update appears to have fixed a bug I had with the preview totally blanking out of some images (and staying blank for all images until relaunch).

Installing now. The description provided in software update is exactly the same as it was for 4.0.2. Did anyone ever find out what the deal was? Any word from Apple?

the only change i see is they put a notice that your photos were going to be reloaded into iPhoto (which will take a few seconds)
probably because all you pansies were complaining that it took so long to open the first time. ;)

Yeah, it had to update my library.

And call me crazy, but has the print button changed? And in all honesty, I've never ever seen that "desktop" button. What the heck? It's probably been there all along, but I'm just not smart enough to notice :\

been there a long time ;)

Well it only takes 2 seconds to quit this time.. but scrolling through my 4000 photos is a little more sluggish... have to go up and down a few passes to make it completely smooth.
