I just compared prices between a mac book pro with 2GB, 100 GB 7200 RPM and with differences being the speed 1.67 and 1.83 and video card 128, 256.

The difference including taxes is around $250. Knowing that I will not be using it for videogames and only for school and recording music using NI or logic software, should I just save me those $250?

Note: I used the prices from the Education store adding AppeCare as well.

CPU speed difference will look more or less negligible and I'd have a hard time believing you'll notice VRAM uplift unless you're using heavy graphics intensive apps. Save your cash.

At the same time, that $250 initial investment doesn't necessarily translate into a $250 loss at the end of the day. I'd bet you could get an extra $150 for that when you decide to sell it (if that's your thing). So, is it worth $100?

I guess I'll save those $250 for the following.

First, is it possible to get an external 16X DVD+RW at least to run with VPC or something? I have not seen anything talk about this before.

Another is to get an external hard drive.

And don't forget, it's all moot if your primary use is Logic Pro... not Universal Binary Yet... (http://www.apple.com/logicpro/crossgrade.html)

You'll spend $299 on the Crossgrade in order to have it run at all.
