Airport Extreme to be replaced with new tech?

crap i just bought an airport extreme,

Thoughts? How long before apple impliments this technology you think?

It will probably be a while (maybe 6 months) before Apple adopts the technology. The standards must be submitted and approved before production of the hardware can be started.

Have no fear over your current purchase.

The process that takes a 'proposed specification' to 'final product' usually runs anywhere from YEARS to NEVER. In that journey they will have 'competing proposed specs' (from other groups of companies) and the IEEE working group committee and their endless stream of meets and votes etc etc etc working against them.

All in all it makes for interesting times ahead (and much faster wireless speeds for sometime in the future) but don't start holding your breath just yet.

P.S. Quite a few other 'proposed specs' already exist that claim similar speeds.
