I was trying to change my MBP to a 2.0 but it does not give me that option. (for some reason I thought I had seen that option before) I still have about 2 weeks to change or cancel so can it be changed if I call Apple?

I'd call Apple and find out.

you guys who have more experice with macs...how faster is going from 1.83 to 2.0....any noticable difference?....what use does the 256 MB video card have, will it help in the future for newer and better flat-screen LCD monitors?

It's really not likely that you would perceive any difference in performance between 1.83 >2.0 Ghz (notwithstanding that there is one).

Re VRAM, 128 > 256 MB is again an improvement but not one you are likely to notice in normal use unless you are doing something very high-end which eats VRAM. 128 MB is a creditable baseline.

i guess my main concern is that this is going to be my laptop for probably the next 4 years..thats why i was thinking on getting the most of it right now before its too late...programs coming out needing more vram and stuff like that

But in four years it won't matter how much VRAM you have, because the Radeon X1600 won't be a very good card then. 128 MB vs. 256 MB isn't really that big a difference, and the main limiting factor in graphics isn't the amount of VRAM, it's the video processor itself (which cannot be upgraded or replaced).

As for 1.83 vs. 2.0 GHz, the percentage difference is a mere 9%. I don't think you'll be able to tell the difference without a stopwatch.

if you're concerned about maximizing performance, just max out the RAM, stop the spec-whore obsessing, and get on with it, man!

What you said! I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking that tac needs to just make a decision.
