Take-Apart guidance for Lacie Porsche hard drive

Has anyone successfully taken apart their Lacie Porsche drive (to install a larger drive, for instance) without butchering it? I'd love to see some picts of the process, if not just a decent description or exploded view.

I have just taken mine apart.it is actually very easy. No pics, but here goes:

I used a long bladed kitchen knife to get carefully spread apart the sides from the bottom plate. there are 4 small tabs along each side of the case going int 4 slots on the bottom plate. The long sharp blade inserts easily between the side and bottom plate.
Carefully pry the side away from the bottom plate starting from the front working towards the back. You gently twist the blade to get the tabs out of the slots. the first one is the hardest. After that they pop out easy.

And to remove the hard drive mechanism, once you have the bottom plate off, remove the four silver screws--two along each side--then use the knife to separate the sides of the hard drive from the case, so that the front of the drive is angled up (you'll also have to pull the activity LED loose from its hotmelt glue), then slide the drive out of its metal mounting bracket--you won't be able to pull the drive out along with this bracket.

What a pity to disturb the row, and post before 2007, but has anyone experiences with the newer LaCie d2 drives? Can they be taken apart?

Thanks so much for the post - if you follow the instructions, they are surprisingly easy to get into. Then you can test if it is the drive or the FW bridge which is causing the problem.

In my case it seems to be the drive, so I can at least stick another drive in the box and salvage a bit of use from it! :)

Weird, but I just found this topic on Reddit. Poor Murbot... The funniest thread ever though. I had LaCie Porsche Design P'9220 1 TB hard drive last year (ordered it from Amazon) and I also wanted to save data via the LaCie Private-Public software. Didn't help.
