View Full Version : Any way to speed things up a bit?

My computer has seemed kind of sluggish lately. I'm poor, so more RAM is out of the question for the time being, and I don't want to go through the hassle of wiping the drive and reinstalling and what not. That said, are there any good, easy, relatively quick/hassle free ways to give the system a speed boost?

Well, for a fairly simple method that MIGHT help a little bit, you could try downloading one of those system maintenance utilities (like Onyx) and having it run all sorts of minor maintenance routines. You can have it clear your caches, clear log files, run cron scripts, and fix permissions all in one run. That could help a little bit.

This thread (http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?t=11662) might also be of some help.

You really do need more RAM though. 256 MB isn't really enough for OS X. Reinstalling might be worth it sometime if you get the opportunity, but it probably won't help enough to be worth the hassle.

I have some old 256MB sticks that I had for my Ti 667. Do you know if they are compatiable.

They have 256MB Sync 133Mhz CL3 written on them (original apple RAM)

I moved from 2 256MB to 2 512's.

Yeah. Put me on the "baffled" pile as well.

At least he didn't point him to the sticky in the GB at .com, haha. :)
By the way, our sticky is better :p

If it's an option, a clean install with work wonders.

I'm interested. I'm pretty poor, but if I can, I'd be happy to take them off your hands. PM me with details. (I live in CT, btw)
