Is there a reliable and legit site where I can buy OS X Tiger for a good price?

Thanks in advance

apple.com?

Compared to XP, £88.99 (or the $ equivalent) IS a good price!

Buy it from my biz agent site (agents.apple.com/store and enter agent code AA071441) and I'll send you one of the new spiffy Apple pens free of charge!

Apple.com: $129

Amazon.com: $114

MacSales.com: $99 (but the added shipping costs make it a wash with Amazon.com)

Does anyone know of a good third-party reseller that has a better deal?

If you are in the education industry, you can get some pretty steep discounts on lots of software. $69.99 from Apple's online education store.

Ahh, I found it for $45 if you are a college student, or know someone who is..

Thanks for the tips, however, I'm not a student.

Are there other resellers that have a good deal?

Did Apple start checking student IDs, or can you still just punch in some random code pulled out of your ass?

What, and do something unethical!?!? ;)

How do Apple check the honesty of those who purchase from the store for Education? I've never used it myself, as I had an e-voucher that couldn't be used in the Education Store. When I log into the store, I can't even fit the full name of my college into the dialogue box since there are too many characters, but I can progress to the store nonetheless. Do they do after-sale checks?

When I got my iPod from Apple's online education store, there wasn't a place to specify if you were indeed a student. In theory anyone could buy stuff online at education discounts without ID. At least it worked for me....

I might have already been in their database though, since I had bought an iMac earlier.

Heck - I should offer my unopened Tiger up 4 sale. Came with my G5 10.3 machine. Full install 10.4 DVD. I really don't plan on updating. (US version).

First they check the buyer's e-mail address, shipping address, and billing address. If none of them belong to an educational institution, Apple randomly (AFAICT) contact buyers to forward a copy of the student ID or a transcript or something. They put the order on hold until this information is verified.

At least, that's how it worked a few years ago.

I know "people" that have been using two year old student IDs to still get a discount. But that's at the store.

If you can't verify it, do they charge the regular price or do they cancel the order?

Do they always verify student IDs?

Now that's what I'm looking for: $69

Has anyone used dealmac? Are they legit and reliable?

I wonder how Apple checks the homeschooling discounts... Here in Arizona there is no goverment documentation needed to homeschool. I guess they would just have to take your word for it. As they can't ask for any proof.

Has anyone used dealmac? Are they legit and reliable?Dealmac isn't offering it, MegaMacs is. Dealmac is a site that basically just culls the best tech related deals on the web at any given time. One of the places I visit regularly.

That makes sense--thanks for the clarification. I noticed that the dealmac link went to another site. I just Googled MegaMacs and read several consumer reviews expressing dissatisfaction with them and warnings of false advertising.

Has anyone used MegaMacs.com? I think I'll keep looking for a better deal.

I got it at my friendly Apple University Reseller (http://www.k-state.edu/computerstore/), at K-State.

It came in a manila folder with the disk and some documentation, but you don't really need a manual to know how to install OS X ;)
