Hello all - I'm a relative newcomer here (to the forums), so please forgive me if this post is in the wrong area. I didn't really see a section devoted to Apple related Mod's (modifications) but would really like to know what people have done to make their own Apple's unique.

Lighting? Cutting? Painting? What'd ya do to yours?

Also, apologies again if this is the wrong forum, but I want to encourage those who have mod'd their own Apple to submit some information and maybe even a pic to the http://n1066.com website, which is a new site setup for the sole purpose of having a gallery of (what else) mod'd Apples.

Here's a quick summary of what n1066.com is about...

"The n1066.com website is devoted to Apple computer modifications (a.k.a. mods) and is actually hosted on the dual-processor Apple G5 computer that once occupied node #1066 in the Virginia Tech University supercomputer known as System X (a.k.a. Big Mac.)"

My PowerBook is already gorgeous... modding it wouldn't go well.

And you open yourself up to ridicule (http://www.speakeasy.org/~gbeier/worst.casemod.ever/)

There are plenty of sites (http://www.google.com/search?q=apple+case+mod&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8) with case mods and iBook interior shell paint jobs if you want.

Ah, I'm glad to see my "case mod fanboi" impression was so convincing that you even got the "I'm on crack" impression out of it. :)

Someone I know actually moved their entire PowerMac into an ATX case. His poor PowerMac case just wasn't up to the job of cooling dual 1.4 GHz G4s, so he bought a high-quality case by Kingwin (I think) and moved everything over. He had to drill his own holes for mounting the motherboard and rig up some kind of a switch for the power and reset buttons. The end result, though, is a computer that stays much cooler and has dual optical drives (DVD-ROM and CD-RW).

I don't need to resort to any drastic measures to cool down my computer, but I am thinking of getting a special cooler for my Radeon 9800. I just figured out how to overclock it and I'm anxious to start, but the stock heatsink and fan are simply not up to the task and I don't want to risk frying the video card. I've thought of replacing some of the old fans in my case with newer ones that move more air, but the Quicksilver case just has poor cooling properties and I don't think it's worth the money I'd spend on new fans. I'd have to change where the fans are placed if I really wanted to make a difference, and that would be much more difficult than just replacing the current fans.

I put a 6400 board into a 6300 case. Required some PSU mods (regulator, variable resistors, bit o' copper, etc..), but it looks identical outside. (And I've finally got a right angle PCI riser, so I can use a PCI card in it. :))

I think this (http://members.rogers.com/edmondng/powerbook/powerbook.html) is the coolest mod I've seen. I like it because it's just the logo, and so simple, but it's a pretty wild colour compared to the rest of the PowerBook.

Please, crack is a poor man's drug. Brad does pure cocaine. He goes on a lot of ski parties since he got his nose lined with carbon fiber for some hardcore snorting action.

Murbot: Is that mod real? It looks a little photoshoped to me. I don't see any color in the first picture.

EDIT: I know the light is off, but it still looks normal.

Hmm, I think I can see that it's not normal in the first shot...

I'm sure it's real, it's from a For Sale posting on a Canadian Mac board.

I recall seeing the disassembled version of one like this on one of the iBook mod sites a few years ago, so the rainbow apple paintjob doesn't surprise... the fact it looks so clean might mean it's one of the original stickers rather than hand painted.

Nice retro feel, IMO. One of the few mods I'd ever consider.
