If this belongs in another forum, feel free to move it, gentle Mods. But I figured iPhoto=Digital Hub.

Anyway, this can be a place to post pics you've taken of whatever, vacation, Pretentious art shots, ugly co-workers.

Whatever strikes your fancy.

This was taken last May from the front of my cottage, with iPhoto's sepia effect.

Sure, grab it here:

It's really, um, orange. These are all wild poppies in a lot that will soon be a park, closeby my house. They came through and cut down all the grass at one point, but carefully trimmed around the poppies. Nice.

http://homepage.mac.com/alij/.Pictures/QGR.jpg

Taken on my recent jaunt over to Australia. QGR stands for Queensland Great Railway, and it was taken on a train journey up to the Atherton Tablelands. Taken on 35mm, and scanned

http://homepage.mac.com/alij/.Pictures/leaves.jpg

Bit of still life. Taken in Australia again, on my uncle's land. 35mm, scanned, and then the leaves left in colour, whilst the log/background B&W'd in Photoshop

I had no idea that scientists had modified mushrooms so that they grow ears (I'm assuming to transplant to people that have suffered ghastly ear injuries or just aren't happy with their current ears). I also had no idea that they had been released into the wild to grow hither and thither.

Those are some great shots! How did you do the background in black and white in PS? Did you do some massive lassoing or is there some function in PS that I'm missing?

DMBand0026

It's most likely been done with quick mask mode. You make a selection, than enter quick mask mode with one of the buttons at the bottom of the main tool palette. I don't have Photoshop installed on this computer yet, otherwise I'd hit you up with a screenshot or two.
Personally, I'm a huge fan of quick mask mode.

Thanks very much torifile!

I am most certainly not a photoshop expert, so what I did was probably the most inefficient way of doing it! But I achieved this by using bezier curves to get the outline of the leaves, then pulled them each out individually into a separate layer (so I can change the colour of the leaves on a leaf by leaf basis). At that point, I black and whited the background, and just fiddled with the colours in order to get the right balance.

The QGR shot was hardly touched in photoshop - just removed some of the dust and scratches from the scanning process.

I think the DRebel is a wonderful camera, and for its quality and compared to others in its class it really is one of the least expensive cameras. I really love the photos that it takes, if you get the in camera settings right, it can look exactly like film and with photoshop it is even easier. Plus it really is a digital camera that will probably outlast any other one since you can attach any lense that fits a Canon body. If you can, grab a DRebel :D

I picked up a DRebel last year just before Thanksgiving and it's just one of those purchases you don't regret. Once you see the output from this camera it makes you want to take more and more pictures! :)

Right now I have the stock lens and Canon's 75-300 and I feel that's probably all I'll need for quite some time.
