folks, well i recently visited some bookstores 'round the corner and noticed a ... er ... certain lack of children software for Macos X. For the most part kid software is designed for 9 and below. That is what i call embarrassing, or should i say pathetic

Do you know any reliable kid software? What do you recommend?

I don't know much about recent kid software, but man, when I was growing up, I had a ton of those educational games. You might do better by picking up an old Performa for cheap or free, and just get some of those old educational games. I personally remember Math Blaster and Reader Rabbit, though there are a lot more.

Although I don't subscribe to it anymore, the Low End Mac swap list tends to have plenty of people with old Performas they'd be willing to give to you for the cost of shipping, and I also see lots of old software. If you were to put out a request, I'm sure you'd get plenty of responses, since most people are trying to get rid of their old Macs and old software, not obtain more. To join the list you can go to www.lowendmac.com and follow the "email lists" link.

What a hell of an answer. :D

Luca, don't get me wrong, either you are to young to understand or you've forgot to memorize my post while you were replying, completely. ;)

Okay then, the quick answer.

No, I don't know of any educational software for OS X. All of it (or almost all of it) is for OS 9 or earlier.

Too young to understand? What the hell does that mean?

I don't get it either, Luca. Seemed like an appropriate answer to me.

There is hardly any OSX kids software out there compared to OS9.

*shrug*

Apple's (http://guide.apple.com/uscategories/kids.lasso) software guide for kids software lists hundreds of titles that are native to OSX. Just hit the search page for all the listings or use the keywords to filter your search.

If you have questions about individual titles I'm pretty well versed in them so just ask. :)

Well in my experience buying your kids software for your computer is a bad idea. jam sandwiches (I believe it's jelly in the states) and orange juice are bound to find their way as an integral part of your comp. :D

My nieces and nephews spend hours on the children's bbc website though. If thats a help.

I don't see what that has to do with anything. Sure, I don't have kids ( ) but that doesn't mean I know nothing on the matter. I grew up in a home that always had computers, so I have used a lot of that old educational software myself.

Maybe getting a special, older computer for your kids doesn't fit your plan. Then again, it means that if they get peanut butter on it, it doesn't matter (which isn't the case with a shiny new iMac/iBook/PowerMac/PowerBook/whatever you have).

I remain confused by you and your posts here.

My kids have loved the Mia series - link:http://www.kutoka.com/_en/support.html

Some of the newer ones are native in OS X. The older ones work just fine in Classic. I strongly recommend this series for the educational factor, the fun factor, and the production values.
