With Thinksecret's updated report on the inflated prices of what's left of the old iBook 802.11b Airport cards (http://thinksecret.com/news/0408airportupdate.html)... do you think it's a possibility that a third party manufacturer might step in and sell replacement cards to support all those iBook owners.

Aren't Apple owners less likely to (or less frequently) upgrade their machines than their PC counterparts? The need is there I would think.

PS: I don't have one for my iBook, so this is wishful thinking. I won't pay $150 for a used one. Stupid.

Isn't the original Airport card miniPCI ? Should be feasible for someone else to make 'em if they use a standard connection.

The original AirPort card is internal PCMCIA; the Extreme one is miniPCI.

I wish someone would make an USB 802.11g stick that works with Mac OS X, so I can use it with my iBook.

Seemingly, you can use a Sony Vaio WIFI card [PCWA-C150S] in the clamshell iBooks. Don't know how much they cost though...
