I cann't decide if to get 4gb mini or 30gb one. 4gb only stores 1000 songs , lighter but 30gb gives me more storage space (I might need or no ) so for $50 more why not.
Also in itunes how can I tell how many songs I have does # of items equals to total # of songs. Is it really worth buying extended warrenty for ipods.
Did anyone bought the refurbished or they are not worth buying it.
smartguy, check out pscates2.0's iPod buying guide.
Many people have been happy with the refurbished units. Myself included.
AppleCare, well are you a gambling man? Look at it this way, if you buy it you are betting that the unit will fail before the AppleCare coverage period is over. I never buy AppleCare, but place your own bets.
The number of items at the bottom of iTunes is the total number of audio and video files with the total amount of disk space used. In my case 666 files taking up 7.73 GB. I have a 4 GB Mini, but thats all i need for now as I only transfer my top rated, most played and purchased smart playlists. I don't need eveything all of the time.
Hope you get what suits your needs. :)
...so for $50 more why not...
Maybe you answered your own question... If you can afford the extra money, then bigger is better! :)

Depends on your monitary situation. If you want 30 gigs for around the price of the nano, go for a refurbished one, they're always as good as and sometimes even better than a brand new one. No one can tell you exactly what to do, but just know that refurbished iPods are a great deal.
If I were you, I'd get a 30 gig iPod, the Nano doesn't appeal to me much, but that's just me.
I was asking myself similar questions after the hard drive in my 1G 5Gb iPod died.
I ended up buying a 20GB iPod and a 512MB Shuffle. Got them both from Apple's refurb (sale) area.
The Shuffle is perfect for working out and for just carting about. At under $50, if I loose it well, no big deal.
I use the 20GB iPod for travel and for listening to my music at work.
I could not be happier with both iPods.

I have 4351 items in my itunes equals 20.53 gbs thats not the total # of songs correct. I think I will get the 30gb and see if I can get shuffle from the refurbished one from apple.
I think with nano I am being limited to the #of songs. Where can I get cover for the ipod so the screen doesn't get scratched, did anyone bought service plan for ipod from best buy and was it worth it.

That would be your total number of songs, unless you have video's too.

Never never never ever never ever use an apostrophe to make something plural, an apostrophe is used to indicate possession. :)
Thank you.
This message brought to you by the letter G and the number 7.
smartguy, if you have 20 gigs of stuff, get the 30 gig.
I just got the 30GB and it is so worth it, it is surprisingly light and smaller than I thought. The extra GB pays for itself quickly.

Smartguy, what are you going to DO with your new iPod?
That can easily tip the scales for you. If you're planning on using it while you run/work out, then the portability of a flash based player is what you want. If you plan on listening to tunes while you work/commute, then go for the capacity of a hard drive system.
Kretara may have it right, for the same $$$ get a refurb 30g for sheer volume and a shuffle as your runabout.

I want to do both listen to music while working out and listen while I am work.
Well consider this, how much do you want to spend vs how many hours of music you think you'll listen to on average while working out and at work. Do you mind updating the ipod every few days to put new songs on, or do you want to be able to put all your songs on and just pick different playlists?

I travel a fair amount, so I bellied up the extra $100 for a 60 gig. I have about 30 gigs of music, so it would have been just barely more than the 30 would hold; and, purchased a few TV shows from iTunes. There is a fair amount of glare on the screen in bright sun light, when watching video - but its a great way to pass time in hotels & airports.
I personally would go for the largest iPod you can afford for day to day use and add a 512MB shuffle option for exercise, but that is because it suits my current circumstances. For the record I have a 40GB 3G iPod and a 1GB shuffle for jogging.
I work away from home through the week, as such I'm away from my main PC (which holds my music collection) for several days at a time so I need all my tunes with me as I can only sync over the weekend. If I stayed at home during the week I would probably just buy a nano as it is easy enough to update on a daily basis and have a good mix of tunes from day to day.
If you need to use your iPod to cart data around, why not just invest in a USB thumbdrive to do that, this may be a better option anyway as you won't need to carry around your docking cables everywhere.
Yep the largest one you can afford. I picked up a 4gig nano and after some use I want to put way more stuff on it then I thought. Break out the plastic and go for it.

ps. If you don't believe me... I may have a nano for sale :D
