My sister bought a MBP about two weeks ago from eBay and has been having issues with overheating and some display flickering as well as an annoying whining sound.
Upon checking the serial number she discovered she's got a revision A machine. Would Apple replace the system board to a revision D board even though is was bought on eBay?

There is no such thing as revisions. The whole thing was a fluke; that part of the serial number just refers to the production week. It is unproven that there are actual build differences between the various production weeks.

In any case, if you have a display problem, you should obviously have Apple replace it. It's probably a broken inverter cable.

Regardless of where it was bought, if it's less than a year old it's covered.

Take it to an Apple Store or call 1-800-APL-CARE
