Hi folks,

So the deal is, my girlfriend wants to buy a computer, she has, after using my powerbook G4 decided she wants to purchase a Mac laptop. She doesn't want to spend a lot of money and wants something 'cute', so I showed her a 12" iBook and now that's what she wants. With an education discount she can buy the 12" iBook for $949, but my question is, with the release of the new 13.3" MacBook is the price expected to drop on the old iBooks? and where would be the best place to purchase one? Apple or Other?

Thanks for the input,

DK

IMHO
I would just spend $100 more dollars and buy a MacBook. Why buy outdated technology? The MacBook is 5x faster than the iBook.

1.83GHz Intel Core Duo
13.3-inch widescreen display
1280 x 800 resolution
1.83GHz Intel Core Duo1
512MB memory (2x256MB SODIMMs)
60GB 5400-rpm Serial ATA hard drive2
Combo drive (DVD-ROM, CD-RW)
1.33GHz PowerPC G4
512K L2 cache @1.33GHz
512MB memory (DDR333 SDRAM)
12.1-inch TFT Display
1024x768 resolution
ATI Mobility Radeon 9550
32MB DDR video memory
40GB Ultra ATA hard drive
Combo Drive (DVD-ROM/CD-RW)

Thanks for the input,

DKMacMall has the 1.33Ghz 12" iBook for $944. I'm not sure if MacMall offers educational discounts, so she might be able to get it for less.

Undoubtedly I would, but I'm not sure she's really concerned with the technology.

She wants the smallest, cutest(sp?) computer she can afford. She will most likely only be using digital photos/movies, music, email, internet, word processing, and maybe presentations.

That's why I am trying to find out if the price will drop significantly, if at all, because if it does not I will shell out the extra $100 to get the MacBook instead of the iBook. Though I've still never seen or used a MacBook personally (no AppleStore near me), which I would like to before spending $1000, I'm interested in seeing the new keyboard and glossy screen. But for what she needs I don't see spending an extra few hundred (if the iBook drops to around 750$) for performance features she will never use or need. On that note too, is it likely the MacBook will drop from 1099 to 999?

Thanks again,
DK

Only if it does NOT upgrade to a Core 2 Duo in its next revision. Apple could surprise us though.

Maybe ebaY is the best place to look for around $700.

I found THIS (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8814731909&ssPageName=MERCOSI_VI_ROSI_PR4_PCN_BIX) on ebaY.
