I'm in a temporary setting at the moment (have to live in an apartment while we renovate our house) and desk space is limited. I'm looking for a stand that will lift my macbook off the desk a little so I can have cords or whatever underneath it and push it all the way back. Recommendations on particular stands or websites?

I don't personally own one, but I've heard nothing but praise about the iCurve (http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/icurve/).

Since Brad hasn't responded yet, I'll jump in here and note that he's a big fan of the iLap (http://www.raindesigninc.com/ilap.html). It doesn't allow as much clearance beneath the laptop as the iCurve seen above, however.
You can get much cheaper stands. I have a $15, no name plastic one that does a fine job. Maybe not be as nice as the iLap, but if you only get it for limited use, I'd say its fine.
I'm an iLap fan, too, but it won't help all that much with the cabling.
I was an iCurve user when I had a 12" PB. But since I got my 17" MBP I no longer use the iCurve. The 17" is too big and heavy and it will slide off the iCurve :eek:
If you are using a smaller PB, and iBook or MB then a iCurve is a great and inexpensive stand.
thanks for the reply's, and especially the pics. :) right now I'm using a book on the back to prop it up and I have the cables running under that... should get the job done until the iCurve get's here! thanks again!
I got here to late for this I think, but I got my I curve for like 25 dollars on amazon. The only other prices I could find were in the high 30s or low 40s.
Oh and the iCurve rocks!

Maybe the 17" MBP has a slightly different surface texture or something, but my 17" Powerbook sits on my iCurve, no problems.

I've never used the iLap, but I have the RoadTools Coolpad (http://www.roadtools.com/) for my 15" MacBook Pro and love it. I have the travel version. The podium version would get you a bit higher off the desk, but I've noticed I can change the laptop's height on the travel pad by changing where the laptop sits on the stand. Plus, it is super light and easy to travel with. Plus, both the podium and the travel swivel, so getting to chords is easy in a tight spot.
I got my $20 worth. My desk is neater and both my MBP and my lap are much cooler!
I'd still like to try an iCurve on my desk, though, and keep the CoolPad in my travel case. I *love* the look of the thing, but it's not in the budget at the moment. Has anyone used it with the 15" MBP?

The very cheapest that works well and can serve double-use for someone in tight quarters? I recommend buying yourself a wire mesh inbox tray (http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=wire+mesh+tray&hl=en&btnG=Search) from an office supply store or one of Elfa's (or similar) flat drawers.
Turn it upside down and put your laptop onto it.
It's cheap.
It's reusable if you ever get rid of the computer.
You can turn it over and store your laptop in it if need be.
What's not to love?

The rubber grips were probably just dirty on his. Keep 'em clean. :)
The iCurve also comes with extra grip things too. At least mine did.
Mine didn't :(

The iCurve may have come with extra rubber thingies, but I have no memory of them.
And yes, the rubber thingies are clean. The MBP is just slippery.
Maybe the MBP needs a clean? As I said, my Powerbook 17" does not slide off. It's rock solid.

A quick question -- you do know that you rest your computer on the two bars with the rounded side of the ICurve on the desk? I am only asking because a friend of mine was using an iCurve upside-down and had problems with his powerbook sliding off (not to mention that when I first got my ICurve I was quite unsure of which way it was supposed to be set up).

Yes, I am using my iCurve correctly.
No, the MBP is not dirty or covered with oil or anything like that.
I cleaned the rubber thingies again on the iCurve and it didn't help. My MBP can still slide off the iCurve fairly easially.
No, the rubber thingies are not worn down.
I tried 'pulling' my 12" PB off of the iCurve and it 'sticks' better than the MBP.

I bought an Akasa aluminium laptop cooler/stand http://prices.cnet.co.uk/0,39100441,22214223,00.htm
It fits the Macbook pro well and also has fans for keeping that baby cool when its working hard. The aluminium wicks the heat away and the fans ensure good airflow.
The fans are almost silent in operation too and are powered from a usb port (it comes with a short usb cable sporting blue led lit connectors, very nice.
