So, I want to know what my gaming rig is worth, because I plan to sell it on eBay and replace it with a Mac Pro.

I know this is kind of a strange place to ask about the value of a PC, but I know a lot of you are PC savvy.

Here goes:

Alienware Aurora 7500 (Silver, full tower case)
AMD Athlon 64 4400+ X2 (Dual Core, 2.21 GHz)
-1 MB L2 Cache
-2x 1 GHz FSB
ASUS SLi ready Motherboard
2 GB DDR-SD RAM (2x512MB + 1x1GB)
-2x 130 MHz memory bus speed
nVidia GeForce 7900 GTX w/ 512 MB VRAM
80 GB SATA HD - 8 MB Cache, 7200 RPM
300 GB SATA HD - 16 MB Cache, 7200 RPM
Standard cooling system - no AlienIce or Acoustic Dampening
DVD-ROM Drive (don't know how fast)
Samsung 16x DVD burner w/ LightScribe
650 W Power Supply
8 USB 2.0 Ports, 1 FireWire port
Gigabit Ethernet, Linksys Wireless a/b/g card
Stock Alienware keyboard, mouse
Manual, warrantee, all included, in original box.

Obviously I will wipe before shipping, using the system restore disc it came with. It contains XP SP2.

So, what do you guys think this is worth? My guess is in the $2000-$2400 range. I hate to see it go but I have some money saved up and I would much rather have a Mac Pro. Given how fast Xeon 5100's are, I wont be losing any speed, even if I am spending less on the Mac Pro than I originally did on the Alienware. And with Boot Camp, my Mac Pro CAN be a gaming rig. (I got this Alienware 3 months before the announcement of Boot Camp. Doh!)

And, dont worry, I'm not an idiot and I won't sell it until Mac Pros are confirmed and in stores. I'm not stupid.

Thanks!

I don't know, but you might be able to get more money dismantling it and selling the components.

I doubt $2000.

You can configure an Area-51 7500 at Alienware with a Core 2 Duo E6400 and similar components to yours listed for $2200... you can use that as a reference point for a new system and adjust your pricing downwards.

I tried that and got $2,700.

If it costs around $2,700 now, I'd say selling it used around $1,400. If you've got everything in it's original packaging you could probably get away with a hundred more. Of course, a lot depends on the age and maintenance. If it's practically brand new, you might be able to add another hundred, and if you've performed a bunch of maintenance on the hardware, including keeping the tower shiny, you could probably do with fifty dollars more. At any rate, I doubt it would sell at all over $2000, unless you sell it to someone who really knows nothing about computers.

Of course, take my advice with a grain of salt, because I've never sold a computer in my life.
