I think that is for pro, but not certain.
May I ask what type of a program the university has where you can get it for 8.50? How does that work?

To be honest, I don't know. Not sure that's it's available to everyone. I am part-time faculty/staff and saw a sign posted at one of our media help desks. have heard from a lab mate that it's true, but haven't tried it myself. Did by SPSS and FrontPage, each for $5, though, so $8.50 can't be far off.
It is a large university-- 30,000+, so there's obviously some sort of site licensing. I could ask next week and get back to you with specifics...

At Washington State University, XP pro is offered for free to every student. It's through something called MSDNAA I know the MS stands for microsoft and the AA stands for Academic Alliance, not sure what the DN stands for, probably Developer's Network.
I am at a University with about 20,000 and we don't have a program like that at all! I wish we did though! I would buy a copy of XP to put on my Mac Pro seeing as I already installed mine on my MacBook!

Actually, I've been considering getting a couple copies of XP just in case I get a macbook at the beginning of the year like I've planned. When Vista comes out, I'm concerned the university will force us to get it, likely at a much steeper price. With Vista's likely problems, I don't want to lose out on the deal.
Yeah that is probably a good idea to get some copies just to have incase of a forced switch to Vista! I am probably going to buy Vista when it comes out but it might take me a while to decipher which of the versions I need! :D
