Hey Guys,

In Jan '05, Poopycat helped me out by posting in these forums about a sweet deal on the Powerbook G4's at UCLA's bookstore (http://forums.applenova.com/showthread.php?p=156585#post156585). I found someone at UCLA and took advantage of the deal landing a laptop for $1800 which was worth $2500 at the time (a few days later, apple released new powerbooks so I'm not sure how I made out at the end, but on that day, I was the man).

Anyways, I thought I'd pay it forward. My wife goes to UIC (University of Illinois - Chicago) and at their bookstore, they have this deal:

MacBook Pro

MacBook Pro models feature: a full-size backlit keyboard, Scrolling Trackpad, AirPort Extreme wireless networking (802.11b/g), Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, ExpressCard/34 slot, dual-link DVI video out, Gigabit Ethernet, and optical digital and analog audio in/out.
15.4-inch
2.0GHz Intel Core Duo

Built-in iSight camera
Front Row and Apple Remote
MagSafe Power Adapter
Mac OS X Tiger and iLife ‘06

$1,799.00
• 15.4-inch widescreen display

• 2.0GHz Intel Core Duo

• One FireWire 400 and two USB 2.0 ports

• AppleCare Protection Plan - 3 year warranty (upgrade)

Discounted from $2448 retail price

Also, there mayyyyy be a chance for an ipod with this deal too. She was telling me something about that. I'm not sure about that last part though.

This deal seems pretty sweet. I Think this config retails for $1999 new, and $1799 at standard education price. To get it with the warranty and extra ram at the same price makes this pretty slick I think.

I myself wont' be taking advantage of this deal. I'm waiting til next year when the 15" will hopefully have a) firewire 800, b) dual layer DVD support, c) *Crosses fingers* blu-ray reading and - *Crosses fingers tighter* burning ability. Then I'll sell my current 1.5 Powerbook G4 and step into the intel world.
