View Full Version : Airport Express and MAC addresses...

Just picked up one of these in Bangkok! Wicked fun!

Have music streaming all over the house now!

My question is this...

My ISP only allows one machine to be connected to my connection at any one time... It is pretty restrictive here in Thailand still. We have only recently got international on-all-the-time access!!

I am using an ethernet router and have been running a proxy server on my computer which is actually connected to the router so that other machines in our condo can surf the web using their browsers and our Airport network.. My concern was my ISP seeing the different MAC addresses going out if I did proper Internet connection sharing using the Mac OS. I know this happens as I had to declare all the MAC addresses of my machines to Eurobell in the UK to get them to work in this same fashion.

Now I have been told that if I use an Airport Base station and share the connection from that (which will be connected to the Ethernet router) only the MAC address of the Airport Express / Base station whatever will be sent out with packets to the outside world via the router.. I am not convinced.

Can anyone confirm this and back it up with proof. I don't mean to be sceptical but I really don't want to lose my hard sought after DSL connection as it is my current ISP is the only one which offers 24/7 always on connection internationally in Thailand at the moment...

Cheers for any advice..
