I have an ibook that I currently span to a 18" CRT. I'm looking to get a viewsonic 19" and did some research. Seems like they like the VX922 for gaming with it's fast refresh rate. But for overall performance they liked the VP930b which runs around $290.

I also noticed they have a bunch of 19 and 20" wide screens but not many reviews. They said the 20" are not up the snuff yet. I would like a widescreen...any comments?

What do yall think? Opinions? Comments? I'll use it for Graphic design, Photo retouch, web design, some videos.

Thanks!

Two questions: What is your budget and are you only looking for Viewsonic brand?

My budget is between $280-$350. The only reason I looked at viewsonic was the awesome reviews I've been reading about them..esp from NewEgg. But I'm open to what ever 19-20"

You can get a Samsung 204BW or 205BW for around $300. 20-inch, widescreen, 1680x1050, analog (D-Sub) and digital (DVI).

Is the Samsung good for photo retouch work?

Any know if the ibook can support a 20" widescreen? 1680x1050

Never mind...found a post saying it is possible.

I heart Samsung's LCD TVs, but I don't know if that means their LCD monitors are good. But if chucker is recommending one, it probably is.

I haven't tested that particular model, but I've used Samsung CRTs and LCDs for almost a decade now. They're both affordable and decent-quality.

Yep, I know from personal testing that it can be done. Note, however, that at this high resolution, the analog signal starts getting weak. A digital signal would definitely give you a sharper picture.

My Samsung 24" 244T is, unquestionably, the best computer monitor I have ever seen or used. It's just fucking perfect. The 500 cd/m backlight can light up my entire dorm. The 1000:1 contrast ratio makes colors incredibly vibrant, and also makes it an excellent TV screen. And the 6 ms response time is unheard of for a monitor that large. No ghosting, whatsoever, even when I game.

So, short answer is yes: Samsung makes kickass LCDs.

Thanks for all the input. Ended up getting the Viewsonic vp930b. Very nice 19" from newegg.com.

No complaints works great spanned from my ibook.

Thanks!
