I'm not quite sure what there is to know. A lot of sites takes much of the burden off of you, such as SourceForge. Topics you should be well-versed in include:
• Team management.
• Delegation. Find the right man for the right job. But don't let them steer the project away from your ideas.
• Version control.
• Issue tracking.
• Keeping the community up-to-date.
• Knowing when to cut your losses and ship a version, and how to name it.

There is a php program out there called active collab, perhaps it would be what you are looking for. You can find it here:

http://www.activecollab.com/

I installed it, but haven't had time to mess with it.
