I went to the Apple Store today to buy a 2.33 GHz 15 inch MBP. They didn't have any in stock, so the salesman told me to either check back or order on the web. When I was asking him about hard drive size, he advised me not to upgrade to the 160 GB drive because it would run hotter than the standard 120 GB drive. I'm certainly far from an expert, but I wouldn't think it would make much of a difference, since both are 5400 RPM. I suppose that the physical dimensions could be different, and that might affect airflow, but that seems a bit far-fetched.

I'm leaning heavily toward the larger drive. What do you guys think?

I really don't think it would create too much heat, especially since Apple sells them stock like that. They wouldn't design their laptop HDDs to overheat.

The physical dimensions are identical for all hard drive options. 2.5-inch drives can be 9 or 12 millimeters high, but all Apple laptops from the recent years only support 9 mm-high ones; the 12 mm variants won't fit.
