So on craigslist, this guy is selling a Dual 2.0 Ghz G5 PM, but not including a hard drive, RAM, keyboard, mouse or software. Now the only ones I care about are the hard drive and RAM. What does everyone think as far as this being a decent deal?

He said he put the drive and RAM in another machine, so before I'd buy it, I'd have him put it back in and test it. I'm torn, because this is a really great system and I'd use the power. I'm on a tight budget, but maybe I want to wait and get an Intel machine... (sigh)

Wait and get an Intel machine. I wouldn't touch a PowerPC based Mac with a P4 sized pole.

That's not a bad deal, really. RAM and hard drives aren't that expensive (although OS X is $129), and you probably have a mouse and keyboard sitting around. The only thing I would be concerned about is what kind of RAM the machine uses. I don't recall what type it uses at the moment, but the Mac Pro uses FB-DIMMS, which are a little more expensive and harder to find than typical RAM. As long as the PowerMac doesn't use any crazy RAM, I'd do it.

I'm not sure if this model is DDR or DDR2, but it's just regular PC3200 ram. I could get 2GB for around $190.

Okay, then. $600 for the Mac, 190 for RAM and 70 for this 250 GB drive (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822144417). Throw in a few bucks for a keyboard and mouse, and you're looking at a very nice machine for under $900.
