I need a new monitor really bad. I cant deside if it is worth it to get a 20 inch LG hd monitor or just a regular 20 inch LCD flat panel monitor. So basically is it worth it for the money to go hd or just a regular definition monitor.

I don't know what you're referring to by "HD"; as far as I know, there are no 1920x1200 displays that small, so you'll have 1680x1050, which is easily enough for 720p HD, but not full 1080p HD.

sorry i gess i should have phrased that better, but yea i get what you mean but is it to get the better resolution than the standard definition.

Well, like I said, I don't think there are any 20-inch widescreen displays that aren't 1680x1050.

well yea but it dosent need to be a 20 it can be any size but quality wise is it worth it but if it wasnt worth it i would get a 20 inch

I dont know i gess it comes down to better quailty. I gess forget i even said anything about size just is it worth it for the better definition

What are you using it for? Color critical work or just to have a big screen? If so, several of the other guys have given good advice in some of the other threads... take a look.

Oh yes.... sorry, but I have to do this:

yeah
guess
doesn't
don't

:p

Oh I do it with love :)
Here's a link to one of the color-critical discussions in question (http://forums.applenova.com/showthread.php?t=22979).

I would have to say to go with the new 24in LCD monitors from BENQ.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824014124

If you want an even better monitor from BENQ, instead of going with the BenQ FP241W, go with the BenQ FP241WZ.
You might want to check out the Z model because its supposed to be really good.

Actually here is a page with the specs from Tiger Direct:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2893295&CatId=2775

If I had the money I would probably go with the BenQ FP241WZ.

If only I had enough money for it.... I was searching around forever for the next monitor I was getting and then I found the BENQ on newegg and then someone in the reviews section for it mentioned the Z model and then I searched for that and found it on Tiger Direct. Right now I have an LG 20 L204WT which I also recommend and can be found here:

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/LG-20-Widescreen-Monitor-L204WT/sem/rpsm/oid/156262/catOid/-12965/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

LG just updated all their monitors at CES and the one that I got was updated but I can't find a place where you can buy it. Here is the specs on LG's website:

http://us.lge.com/products/model/detail/computer%20products_lcd%20monitors_windows%20vista %20certified_L206WTQ-BF.jhtml

notice how the dynamic ratio got bumped up and the response time also got reduced. The blue light on the front of the new LG's is a heat sensitive light.

Actually, so far, it appears that we haven't gotten the point. I'm still a little unclear on what you're looking for in a monitor.

Grammar, punctuation, and spelling will go a long way here at AppleNova. We are respectful enough to take the little extra time and effort to make our posts readable and our ideas clear, it isn't too much to ask that you do the same.

I have the LG 204WTX as well and love it. The specs are as good as anything on the market (other than the new LGs), and the thing goes for $300 CAD.

FYI everyone, this kid is my friend. I've informed him about spelling properly. :)

Right now he's on my old G4 600mhz with an ATI 7000 (64mb). He doesn't need anything fancy. And I'm sure a Dell would be just fine.

Okay i am not trying to be a dick here, but come on if you didnt read the ones above it I understand that my spelling is bad and my grammar is bad. It isnt that hard to understand what i am saying. Most people don't have a problem with it because they know what i am trying to say. I know i respect what you are doing by trying to help me with my issuse on spelling and stuff like that. Thank you, but for me it is a really touchy subject. I try really hard to get it right and sometimes i dont. But agian i wasn't trying to be a dick. I respect all of you for the help in any way. But just try to work with me for a while i will get it sometime.

More media than anything. Media being: pictures, movies, and i gess some games as well. But it isn't super important that I get the top of line line monitor. It isn't like a color critcal thing here. but I do use photoshop and things like that, but it isn't for a job. It is for personal use.

Windowsrookie

so yea i gess it would be color critical.

It isn't like a color critcal thing here.

:p

Everyone, he's just an average user. He just needs a monitor to replace his current CRT setup.

Sounds like a 20" Samsung would be best. High contrast ratio will improve movie and photo viewing experience.

I really like that 22" Westinghouse Best Buy had for 200 on black friday.

If you can afford to wait until that day, I bet you see a 24" 1920x1200 for 400, which is a steal!!

Unless you're prepared to part with serious cash... or have serious needs (and it doesn't sound like you do),
fast response time (gaming) ≠ colour accuracy (production).

Specs change constantly as technologies improve, but other than the high end of the market,
you get either fast response time ( <12ms ) or you get nearly* accurate colour. Moogs link has both, but $$.

* this is one area that's improving quickly, but still isn't matching reality.

...could go off on a tangent about the pixel grid of LCD, or 16.7M -vs.- "Life", or eye-brain workings. But I won't. The links above have enough jargon, but nice monitors.

If you give us a fixed budget, we could probably set up a poll to vote on our best choice.
If you've got a flexible budget (i.e.: work another month to buy a spec up), I'm sure we could also set up a poll.

Of course, this being AN... and our polls being, um... unique, you would end up buying Beer. ;)

For a budget it would be like $350-$400
