I came across a chassis/case of a PowerMac G4 Mirror Door Drive that my uncle had. He gave it to me and I have decided to geek out and try to find its innards and rebuild it. :) After an hour or so of searching ebay I can across a few options but am not sure what to get. I found 2 cpu's that I know will work with a PowerMac G4 MDD because the sellers said so, yeah I know, but have absolutely no knowledge of what I'd need in terms of a logic board or video card, I have come across a few but am not sure if they are the best options or worth it. BTW, I know this may cost me a pretty penny but I'm willing to do it to get this mac working again. Can anyone help me or give me an suggestions. Thank you.

It will cost you ALOT more to rebuild the machine than it would to just buy one off of ebay.

You will need a motherboard.
There ARE differences in MDD motherboards. You need to check the back of the computer and see which MDD you have. If you have a MDD with FW800, then check out this motherboard: FW800 MDD Motherboard -- $240 (http://cgi.ebay.com/Power-Mac-G4-MDD-Mirror-Drive-Logic-Board-Motherboard_W0QQitemZ250099110246QQcategoryZ51035Q QssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem).
Without FW800: NON-FW800 logic board. -- $220 (http://cgi.ebay.com/Logic-Board-for-PowerMac-G4-MDD-Dual-1-25GHz_W0QQitemZ140099205194QQcategoryZ51035QQrdZ1Q QssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem)

Processor:
Dual 1.33 -- $500 (http://www.gigadesigns.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=20)
Dual 1.25 -- on ebay, should go in the $200's (http://cgi.ebay.com/Apple-dual-processor-G4-1-25-661-2707-new-from-Apple_W0QQitemZ200094988136QQcategoryZ80031QQssPag eNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
Dual 1.66 or dual 1.8 -- $450-$600 (http://eshop.macsales.com/MyOWC/Upgrades.cfm?model=174&type=Processor&TI=2824&shoupgrds=Show+Upgrades)

Now you have to find a video card:
ATI Radeon 9600 pro -- $220 (http://eshop.macsales.com/item/ATI%20Technologies/100435065/)
ATI Radeon 9600 -- $88 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ATI-APPLE-RADEON-9600-400MHz-XT-SPEED-G4-MAC-VIDEO-CARD_W0QQitemZ250099825750QQcategoryZ25449QQssPage NameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

RAM:
512MB -- $40 -- you would need 2 sticks (http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/2700DDR512/)

Optical Drive:
Pioneer DVR-109AB -- $30 (http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Apple/DVR109AB/)

Hard Drive:
250GB Maxtor IDE -- $70 (http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Maxtor/6L250R0/)

Total is about $940..

This would be the minimum that you would need. There could very well be other parts that you would need to buy (cables, screws, HD drive cages, DVD drive cage (I think it used one), mouse/keyboard) that could drive up the price even further. Also, don't forget shipping charges!!!!!

If you are really intent on having a MDD, just PM me. I have 2 of them (DP 1.42 FW800 and DP 1.0 non-FW800) and I'll sell you one for less than you would pay to rebuild your MDD shell. Heck, I'll sell you both if you want.
