hey everyone,

I'm planning on purchasing the following case:
http://www.atechfabrication.com/ms_8x_order_form.htm

I want to use a 120 side mount ATX PSU, but I have no idea what brand or model to get.

these are the features I am looking for:

1) Enough power to drive eight 3.5" HDDs. I reckon 350W should be more than enough, but I am not sure. I don't want to waste money buying one that is overkill for my needs.
2) High efficiency. I want a PSU that isn't gonna run up one hell of an electricity bill
3) Quiet. I want a very quiet PSU. I want to be able to put this in the same room as my hi-fi system without it being a distraction.
4) Modular cables if possible. I want a PSU that has removable cables if possible. I don't want to clutter up the inside of the case with excess cables meant for a motherboard or video card. All I need is SATA cables and molex IDE cables.

Thanks for any advice you guys can offer.

Andrew

BTW: can anyone explain to me the difference between these two port multipliers:

http://www.addonics.com/products/host_controller/ad5sapm-e.asp

and the difference between these two SATA express cards?

I know one is for RAID5/JBOD, but does that mean it has to be used that way or can it also show the drives up as individual drives like the other one if I want it to?... i.e. could one of the two sata connections be a RAID and the other show 5 individual drives?

All Antec Power Supplies are very nice. 350 watt seems to be the minimum recommended power supply these days.

Personally I would go for Tagan if silence and stability are important. They are rather expensive though.

My latest PSU is a Hiper, and its not bad. Its a 120mm fan 530Watt model which I picked up for £45. Not as quiet as the Tagans I have owned in the past though.

Personally I would recommend Corsair's PSU's. High efficiency, 120cm fan, modular cables, and very quiet.

this is the 620 watt version:

this is the 520 watt version:

I have the 620 watt version and have been using it for 5 months with no problems.

for my application should I go for the 620, or will the 520 do fine with no drawbacks? This is only for 8 HDDs and no CPU or GPU.

520 should do fine. I just read reviews and someone said they were using an 8800 GTX with an E6850 so you should easily be fine and its $15 dollars off right now on newegg. People usually say in "Other thoughts" in the comments section what they have in their system so you can check those if you want to be for sure.
