Forgive me for my lack of networking and 360 advice, but is it possible to use an AirPort Express unit to connect an XBox 360 to my wireless network? If so, does it work just as well?

I'm looking at buying a 360 but my entertainment center is in a different room than the cable modem, which is connected to an AirPort Extreme Basestation. Being that the AirPort Express is the same price as the 360 Wireless Networking Adapter, the AirPort provides AirTunes which seems like a bonus over the Microsoft piece.

Thanks.

You'd be going the wrong way. The ethernet port on an express is an input, not an output.

The AirPort Express's port would have to do bridging. I'm not sure it supports that.

Like I said, I had no idea. Thanks guys.

It might work, you can configure the Ethernet port manually, and you can switch the Airport's function to be a bridge (rather than a NAT box). I think that should do what you want, but I haven't tried it, so no guarantees.

With AirPort Express, Apple continues to advance wireless, delivering the first device to pack wireless networking, audio, printing and bridging capabilities into a single affordable, portable unit.

Hmmm. You know, you should ask over at Apple's forums (http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=140). Or maybe someone else here knows. :)

According to this guy (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4748365&#4748365), it's possible:

You just have to setup a WDS network on both base stations. Set the AEBS to the main, and run the connection wizard on the AX - tell it to extend your network (WDS), and select the SSID name of the AEBS. Let the two base stations talk to each other for 2 minutes and boom - my 360 now has an IP address and xbox live works! This solution saved me about ~$60-100 by not having to buy the wireless network adapter mentioned above!!

Hum. This looks like a much better option.

 Ethernet, isn't an input/output system... It can send data both ways, so an input is also an output.

Bump

Has anyone tried this?

I have my PS2 Slim hooked up to my Airport Express ethernet port, and it works fine.

So if it works for that little system with very basic networking set up....

Actually I've gotten the RROD several times and I just shut it off and turn it back on and it's fine. Ive seen my friends do it too and did the same thing, shut it off and turned it back on and it was fine.

Not the real RROD.. Perhaps the "I'm a dumbass and my video cludge is loose" 4RLOD, but if you have the RROD you are screwed...

Yes, it'll fire up occasionally, but play anything other than Tic-Tac-Toe on the 360 and it'll bork itself right away again.

As far as using an Airport Express as a bridge, yes, it's possible. I've done it myself. It can even be used as a router, if the need arises.
