I was going to get my brother an iPod nano for Christmas with my $100 rebate, but just found out he doesn't want one. After playing with them at the store, I'm in love. I really want one, but I have an iPhone and don't really need one. I guess I just need help thinking rationally, because right now I'm feeling really impulsive. I've asked for Leopard and iLife for Chirstmas, so I'm not sure what else to buy. I know no one can make the decision for me, but help with with some positives/negatives and other options for spending my money (no I won't give it to you:p ) I don't listen to a lot of music, so I really do not want iTunes cards. I wish I could just put it back on my credit card.

Apple TV? New Apple keyboard (bought it, love it) :) Airport Extreme/Express? Speakers? Nice headphones? Apple Bluetooth headset/dock? You could buy iTunes cards for Christmas presents.

Use the credit to buy the new OS or iLife and pick something else for Christmas... but... I bought my Dad the iPod Nano and IT IS HOT.

I would also suggest looking at decent headphones or a headset. Two iPods are really not very useful, unless you have some very specific things in mind (like the Nike+iPod for running).

Get the Nano and a Nike+ kit and come join the challenge... That way you can get the nifty gadget you're drooling over and 'buy' yourself better health in the process! ;)

No, don't get the new nano. Save it for 10.5, and get a refurb G2 nano if you want to join the challenge.

The old nano would be a better Nike+ iPod, because it's less wide so it fits on an armband better.

Good point there, guys... I really do like the streamlined design of the "old" Nano, myself! Well, either way, come join the challenge... It's the best (and least expensive!) 'gym membership' I've bought yet!!

OK, I have a dumb question. Do you have to use Nike shoes or can you modify another brand? I've never had a pair of Nike's that fit me right and they all hurt my feet.

No, you don't need the special Nike shoes.

You could pry up the insoles of your own shoes and carve a cavity in there for the Nike+ transmitter, but this could ruin your shoes - especially if they have an air or gel cavity in the sole.

A better solution is to rig up some kind of holder for the transmitter that hooks to your laces. There are some 3rd party products for this, but the best I've seen is a homemade job. If I recall, it was just a little sock type pouch sewed up to fit the transmitter. It had Velcro fasteners so that when you wrapped it around your laces and back, it would just fasten back to itself.

Sorry that's not a very good description. There was a thread somewhere here when these things first came out that had a link to instructions, but I couldn't find it.

I knew chucker would know where that stuff was.

Here's a direct link to the homemade how-to that I mentioned: socky thingy (http://www.web-goddess.org/archive.php/postID/6190)

It's one of the links from the 'round-up' page that chucker posted.

I use this one... (Google 'Marware') Practically identical to the one chucker posted. Works fantastically!!! I place it on the shoe of my dominant foot. Not that it really matters; it's just my little system! One of the best ten bucks I've spent... I'm pretty picky about shoes, and this way, I can wear the shoes of my own choosing, and still use the Nike+ kit!

I just use velcro attached to the sensor and the tongue of my shoe. Slide the sensor under the laces and I'm set.

I didn't have it bookmarked if that's what you're implying; I use Web searches just like everyone else. :p
