but the worst are the owners, they send you pug greeting cards, have pug jewelry, pug this, pug that. oh yeah and a pug owner who writes an operating system would "cream himself (or herself)" to name it pug.

if apple named their OS "PUG".......well i just wouldn't be happy. ;)
but switch to microsoft? i doubt it.

I don't think they'll name it after the canine family. There are only a few of big names you can use: wolf, coyote and fox... and of those only the fox variant would have positive connotations through and through. Naming a system after domesticated dogs of any type would seem way to pedestrian.

I don't know what's left after the big cats... bears maybe? Kodiak, Grizzly, Panda, Polar Bear....... Koala.

I think the planetary theme is actually a pretty good one, as NASA is embarking on several missions over the next few years to do intra- and extra-solar planetary studies. They could do one planet and then the moons for each release cycle:

Since Cassini will be sending us planetary goodness for months to come the first logical choice seems to be

OS 11: Saturn
11.1: Titan
11.2: Hyperion (may be trademark issues on this one)
11.3: Atlas


OS 12: Jupiter
12.1: Io
12.2: Europa
12.3: Callisto


After 12 I doubt if they'll stick with numbered systems (if they get that far to begin with). Also think there will be more time between releases once we get to the point of OS 11. Once every 18 months or so I wager now that the core system is stable and in place.

Speaking of parasitic life forms, i remember flipping through a medical review in freshman year of high school, and I never quite recovered from seeing pictures of Echinococcus Granulosus.

it was a picture similar to these two, but the granules were in a human's heart and they had to squeeze it to pop them out. it gives me the chills even today.
