Hello? Why does this place not have avatars? I mean come on, they would be nice. Help me recognize people
We use these new fangled things called 'names'.

Because the people that run the show don't like 'em. :)
Too many sites are overrun with hideous avatars and signature images. We like to keep one giant sophisticated step ahead of those other gaudy forums. It's a running theme here, as with the simple, muted colors of the UI.

It's because this place looks pretty sophisticated as it is! It's a nice place and I like it the way it is.

When you walk into a new friend's house, do you go around criticizing their decor and then pouting when they say they like it that way?
I'm not taking this personally yet. I hope you don't either. We're always welcome to new members for the community. We just don't need new people to come and the first thing they say is that they don't like the way things are being run. That tells us that you're either a troll or a seriously misguided human being.
But like I said, don't take that personally. ;) We all make mistakes and, as far as this goes, I've already wiped the slate clean and am ready for your new first impression.

I can't tell where a post begins OR ends. Truly an eyesore. I'd go there SO much more if it looked like this place. And, aesthetics aside, the load times for some of those pages, even on cable modem, are ridiculous.

This site looks damn fine, just as it is. Easy on the eyes, loads fast, is easy to follow threads, no visual clutter or distractions, etc. Nobody wants it looking like the link above.

As a person that is very dyslexic, I don't mind not having avatars. Yeah it would likely make life easier, but it's not the end of the world.
If you really need to express yourself, you can have a profile picture like this:

Look, T&A, the mod squad here has already said that you'll get one more chance at redeeming yourself. I'm locking this thread and I expect you to let the issue rest. Believe me, we have had lots and lots of discussion about this issue in the past and we're not changing our policies, especially for a single person. You may not like it but that's how it is.
Anyway, you can always participate in some other discussion. Please try to do so and keep it civil.
