So, as you have probably noticed (as I'm spamming the boards with my tales of woe...) my MBP has given in: The Logic Board has died on me and it's going to be $1471.68 to fix.

Or, $1399 for a new MB...

So, which to go for?

17" Screen vs 13" screen. It's a big step down. Less resolution, too.

2.0Ghz vs 2.16Ghz. But the 2.0 is a Core 2, so probably faster than the Core in the old MBP.

2GB Ram vs...2GB Ram. No probs

Graphics: is the integrated GeForce 9400m worse than the ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 (256MB)? Does it matter?

Shiny screen vs Matte. I loves me some matte, but I guess there's no option these days.

The HD is actuially considerably bigger: 160GB vs 100GB

I think I'm leaning towards the new MB. Maybe after christmas. Thoughts?

See my post in the GB thread, if you don't want to do that buy the new machine. The new machine will last you at least three years. Think you'll get three more years out of your 17" machine if you repair it?

I'd definitely go with a new MB. I'm typing on one now and they're beautiful.

There is always the refurb section for older MacBook Pros with matte screens.

I guess I wouldn't fix it. You could try to sell on ebay without saying it's broken... just kidding. But you could seriously sell it to somebody who wants part or something. That would reduce the price of the new computer you'll get.
