I heard great things about the Plantronics Discovery 650E and found some on clearance for $36 so I picked one up for my Father-In-Law who is a trucker. He's been complaining about not being able to use his current headset on the road because everyone only hears the truck noise when he rolling. After looking at the reviews I've come to realize this wasn't the best option for him.

So now I'm here to ask what you've been using or know of having great noise canceling and works well for that kind of situation. The UPS guy who stops by my work all the time uses a Jawbone so I know it's good but I don't want to pigeon-hole myself. What are some other options for noise canceling BT headsets. His phone was a Razr but I think he just picked up a Storm on launch day. (I haven't talked to him since to find out.)

I've got two recommendations. From what I read both the Motorola Motopure H12 (http://direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/h12/) and thePlantronics Voyager 520 (http://www.plantronics.com/north_america/en_US/products/mobile/bluetooth-headsets/voyager-520) have good reviews.

The Moto has better noise cancelling but at a slightly higher price, also slightly less talk time (6 hours vs 8 hours). The moto comes with a couple magnetic charging stands, I'm not sure if this would cramp a truckers style but maybe it wouldn't. You could just attach one to a dashboard or a convenient place with some sticky tape and let it sit there cause of the magnet.

As for the Plantronics unit, I understand that the highest volume maybe be lower in comparison to the Moto unit and the volume nob is a little hard to use.

Note, I don't have real life experience with these, I'm just going based on what I've read in the past. I read the review of these back in August, maybe there's something new out there someone else can point out?

Thanks for the input. I've looked at the 520 and the reviews are pretty good overall. I had an acquaintance rave about that Motorola too. The 520 is only $50 at Best Buy right now so I'll likely go with that one.

Anyone else have any other input?

I have a Jawbone rev 1, my wife has the rev 2, and they are very good headsets... just so you know, the noise cancellation is for those folks on the other end of the conversation, not those in the noisy environment.

I've got problems with tinnitus, and I thought the noise cancellation was 2 way, but it's not. I had a Motorola receiver that didn't extend into the ear canal and that was basically useless, but the Jawbone goes into my ear and that helps a lot. The noise cancellation works great! I use mine in large machine rooms with literally acres of HP superdomes and EMC SANs and folks can easily understand me. The only thing that the rev 1 has a problem with is that it doesn't correct for wind noise. Rev 2 does a much better job of that.

I'd say you should buy the Jawbone. Buying the best is hardly being "pigeonholed" and Alph claims "Jawbone eliminates up to 10x more noise than the closest competitor".

http://gsmmonster.com/ has the Aliph Jawbone 2 for $64.99, and I've seen other places have it under $50, and you can still get the rev 1 for about that same price. I'd recommend the rev 2 over the rev 1 if you get one - the rev 1 is kinda a pain to carry.

The good: The Aliph Jawbone 2 is a fashionable Bluetooth headset with a comfortable fit and an array of noise-canceling and voice-enhancement technologies that result in amazing sound quality.

The bad: The Aliph Jawbone 2 doesn't have a volume rocker, and the LED light is located directly on top of the Talk button.

The bottom line: Despite its quirks, the Aliph Jawbone 2 is quite possibly the ultimate Bluetooth headset in terms of design and sound quality.

Incredible demo here:

Just for the record, I have no association or investment in the Alph co. other than as a consumer. It's just so good I have to share.

My wife and I have settled on the Jawbone but now we are bargain hunting. GSM Monster rips you off in shipping but all total it still seems less than the rest.

I ended up ordering one Jawbone 2 ($84.79 after shipping) for my father-in-law and two H12's for my wife and I. It was only $77 with shipping for both of them so I figure I can't really lose with them. Plus, I've got $76 in BT headsets sitting here to be returned since they don't have noise cancelation.
