I'd like a pair of shoes to wear, but I have no sense of style. Fact is, for the last eight years I've worn sandals just about every single day of my life. I've even worn sandals while wearing a tux. When it's too cold or I'm playing tennis I wear sneakers. I'm looking for something I can wear to work or out that's as comfortable as a sandal but is a little nicer than a sandal. I really don't have a clue where to look. Please help.

I personally have an affinity for boat shoes... The nice ones. My husband has a really cool deerskin pair. Very nice, presentable, yet comfortable... especially in your climate! Not dressy enough for a tux or a formal suit, but a marked improvement over sandals nevertheless, and suitable for just about any other wear!

Well, it sounds like you want to venture into the world of Casual Shoes. Not your sneaker/sandals but not stuffy wingtips either.
I like ECCO (http://www.eccousa.com/) and Clark (http://clarks.zappos.com/) Shoes. They ARE a little on the pricey side but are worth it. If you want something cheaper, go with Rockport. They are decent. As to which ones to get. Well its hard to offer clear suggestions but something like this (http://www.eccousa.com/shoes/mens/casual/cross/3/detail.aspx) is pretty basic and very comfortable... You can wear shoes like that anywhere at all and fit in.

Wait... are we talking about a Socks with Sandals habit?

Not sure if that's fixable. You may be suffering from a birkenstock injury to the buds of taste. ;)

Just find a nice pair of simple black shoes. If they are comfortable, even better.

To rebut myself, he is coming from sandals. Sounds like we are lucky he is wearing "shoes" at all.

Sandals with a tux? Lucky you have not been clubbed like a baby seal.

Sandals and tux, eh?

Sounds crazy, but perhaps Florida is the kinda über casual place where you can actually get away with it.

I just found my preferred brand's website (I think it picks language in accordance to the IP address). They are good looking and have a good fit for wide feet:

http://www.bubetti.com/

Of course they will soon look like shit if you don't maintain them properly. There used to be a good Knol article on shoe-care, but it looks like Knol has drowned in spam so I can't find it. Well, here's the basics:

Don't use a silicone based shoe cream. It kills the leather. I prefer the hard Kiwi stuff.
Polish them once a week.
Don't dry them on a radiator if they get wet. Stuff them with newspaper.
Get the heel replaced before it wears down though the bottom layer of the sole.
A decent shoe salesman should know all this and more.
A gentlemans shoes should be shiny, not flashy.
Different rules apply for sneakers and such.
Women will judge you on your shoes.

I like ECCO (http://www.eccousa.com/) and Clark (http://clarks.zappos.com/) Shoes.

Those are quite nice but quite pricey considering I typically spend about $50 on a good pair of Rainbow's once every year or so.

Wait... are we talking about a Socks with Sandals habit?

No way. That's all the European tourists that come to this area. I rarely wear socks for that matter.

Sounds like we are lucky he is wearing "shoes" at all.

Bingo. And for what it's worth, I wore black sandals with the tux.

I can't speak from personal experience, but anecdotal(y), I've heard nothing but good things about Keen shoes: http://www.keenfootwear.com/men.aspx

It finally dawned on me a few years ago to buy walking shoes. I got some New Balance ones that I can wear about anywhere, and they;re more comfortable for walking than either dress or running shoes.

Of course, if you want style, I'm the wrong person to be giving advice! I couldn't care much less. Hell, I'd be wearing sandals today if it wasn't below freezing out!

I typically wear black Dr. Scholls casual work shoes

I have problems with heel pain when I wear regular shoes, so I can verify that these are comfortable.

Hell, I'd be wearing sandals today if it wasn't below freezing out!Werd.

Though, my footwear consists of 2 extremes, with nothing in between. If I'm not in sandals I'm wearing Caterpillar Tall Work Boots. Either my feet are completely unprotected or wrapped in 1/8" of steel. :D

Such is the life of a Gemini. ;)

Oh man, nothing better then a nice pair of Rainbow sandals.

Now only if they didn't stink like hell every year after constant use....

I love my Skechers leather trainer/shoe things.

Super comfy, just smart enough, just scruffy enough.

Sandals! And with a tux!

I think you should just keep wearing the sandals darlin'. If that doesn't scream "personal style sense", I don't know what does.

I wear jazz dance shoes or boots. Split sole. Love that feel of support it gives the arch. Very comfy, not surprisingly, and cheap all things considered. Avoid Capezios. You'll pay a premium for the name.

I do like those Skechers for the very reason they look a lot like jazz dance shoes.

I second eccos. They are amazing shoes and do have choices that are as comfortable and convenient as sandals but a bit more tasteful.
