I'm dizzy from trying to keep up with about 6 sites updates on the keynote so I may have missed this but did Steve announce the audio device which we've come to know as Asteroid? I can't seem to find a reference to it anywhere.

I didn't see it either, and GB received a big update too. Maybe it was scrapped. :(

A bit surprising, I was really looking forward to it. I guess it's possible Asteroid was Mac mini. Garageband just got a whole lot better, I figured it'd make sense for apple to release a breakout box to utilize all that betterness.

I really think it'll be announced at NAMM (http://www.thenammshow.com/). Apple has a link to it in on the Hot News (http://www.apple.com/hotnews/) page under events. It happens Jan. 20-23.

Searching the show directory for Apple gets you this: (http://okkoto.namm.com/showdirectory/exhibitorlist.cgi?company=apple&search=Search)

Apple - Booth #208D Hall Level 2

Apple - Booth #6252A Hall A

Apple - Booth #6400 HallA

Unless Apple can give a speech I don't think they'll release Asteroid at a tradeshow booth. I could be wrong, but Apple will want a press release to announce Asteroid to the world and they won't get that from a simple NAMM show booth.

Really? It's weird because all it really is is a small firewire audio interface. Doesn't seem like that big of a deal really. There are already several out there and most audio gear like this is released at the yearly NAMM show. But you might be right.

This could be why Apple was so upset about this particular leak. It wasn't ready and now their competition is very aware that they are getting ready to drop a big low priced bomb on them.

Revenue loss or damage to Apple may be even easier to calculate if the others suddenly drop their prices well before its release.

Yeah, which is why they sued them first..then got really pissed over the Mac mini leak..so they crack down even father to find the mole(s)...

For those who want the Asteroid, I would think you may want to start looking at other quality companies if the Asteroid turns out to be the Mac mini...

But I like to say i was very close to bying a Jetaudio stick MP3 flash player because I didn't believe the original iPod flash rumors, but I held out when the rumor they were in production, I held off till today.

Would I've been pissed if I went with Jetaudio? Not really, it's as cool and good quality as the iPod Shuffle.

so..there is already a great Asteroid type box out there that you won't be pissed if Apple brings out this one...

"dro"?

ThinkSecret - if I may classify the site as a person - was under the impression (http://www.thinksecret.com/news/0501expo6.html) that Asteroid was a separate product from the Mac mini. The first I read someone connect the two was BuonRotto's quip in one of the Mac mini threads from yesterday (perhaps the one in the Speculation forum).

Yeah, so unless this music box is in a lockbox, no one really put two and two together....Which is why Apple would go sue crazy over a little box like that...

If Apple wanted to sell an external audio device, why did they not just market the emagic a62m device under the Apple logo once they acquired emagic?

Granted it's USB 2.0 not FW, but it's a fine audio device (I have one and use it with Logic 6.3)

In fact, I find no mention of this device on Apple's site, so I assume they discontinued it. zZounds no longer sells it either, but you can see what it used to be at http://www.zzounds.com/item--EMAEMI62M

So if Asteriod doesn't exist, what was being used to bring in 4 separate audio devices for the GB demo..? Anyone know for sure, or care to guess..?

It could have been something as simple as a mixer hooked up the the line in jack.
