I can't be with my girl for valentines day which is a shame cause she is really into valentines day, so one of the things I really want to do is change the icon of the chat application we use to a custom icon I've made (which is a bit of a lame couple's in-joke.)

I obviously don't want to talk her through how to do this, so is anyone feeling very generous and able to write a quick script that performs the action when double clicked? I tried to do it with automator but you can't specify the inside of an app as the location for the icon :(

I would be very grateful to anyone who can help with this! Doubly so if a single person manages to stop vomiting enough to assist :)

Sorry.

 It's okay, we're in that period when we're unabashedly, horrendously OTT with each other. Soon she'll realise that I'm just a skinny Eric Cartman and we'll move on to another 5 years of bitterness and brinksmanship. Then I'll use the same script to change the MSN icon to a photo of a dead baby or something. But, meantime... :)

Do you have access to her machine before you go?

Unfortunately not, I have to send it to her and get her to double click it.

Not sure if you read the OP/are familiar with what a trojan horse is. Trojan horse = malware usually resulting in misuse of a user's data. This = an installer for a custom dock icon.

imagine a scenario where you send this installer to someone you don't know... it isn't a very effective trojan horse, mind you, but it is still a trojan horse...

Sorry if I'm being dense, but I don't see how this is different to any other installer? You double click it and it performs an extract/copy action. Do you think it's a trojan horse because I'm not telling her what it installs?

That is the very definition of a trojan horse: a program (usually a malware installer) that a user is tricked into opening because of social engineering and deception.

That said, what you're doing isn't really malicious nor do you seem interested in inflicting it upon the broader public; so, using a term with such negative connotations is a bit silly.

Ah, I think I see. There isn't even going to be any deceit involved; it's just so that I don't have to explain to her how to put the icon into the folder, etc. Unless you count "not telling" as deceit :)
