Can anyone recommend a good piece of personal finance software? I was using Quicken 98 on my PC before I Switched(tm), and all I hear are horror stories about the Mac versions of the program. I just need something that will balance my checkbook--no need for crazy bells and whistles. Any good freeware solutions? What about Liquid Ledger? Thanks in advance.

Same here, believe it or now, I really liked Microsoft Money, but Quicken just doesn't offer the same style I am looking for. I'll second this question...

I use iBank, by the makers of the first iWork :-)

Haven't used it yet, but Liquid Ledger (http://www.liquidledger.com) is Cocoa, has a very simple, Mac-like interface, and best of all, is made in Canada!

(Edit: oops, just saw you mentioned LL in your last sentence.)

I am a happy user of, and will recommend, Moneydance (http://moneydance.com/).

Pip pip!

Digging up an old thread: any new or other opinions for personal finance software for the Mac, or are these three the perennial favorites?

Our household uses and loves Quicken 2005. No major complaints here.

So you find it works well in OSX? I always hear complaints about it. I'd just try it out and see, but since i have a Powermac, it didn't come preinstalled.

I'm going to second iBank, especially since they came out with v2 beta. Very good software, has the functionalities that you would want from Quicken, a MUCH better (nicer to move around and use) interface, a good forums page - I asked a pretty newbie question the other day and it was answered very promptly which clarified tihngs - and really dedicated developers.

The only problem right now is that 10.4.3 broke compatibility with the beta version and they can't get things fixed until next Wednesday. However, I was personally thanked for sending crash reports and told that I would be notified immediately of the fix. This was worth my money, and I don't spend money on software that often because I'm a grad student.

Also, I tried iBank during the 1.x period and didn't think it was what I wanted. Now with v2, this is quite different.

I use Budget (http://www.snowmintcs.com/products/budgetmac/). They built the personal finance system around the method of budgeting. As their budget style ("envelope method") matches my own very well, it was a great fit. Basically, instead of the business way of budgeting which is to project income and expenses and hope they match up, it uses a more personal method where you get income, allocate it (into "envelopes") and then spend only what you have allocated. Makes it easy for me to stay within the budget.

Good thing this thread was here, this is exactly what I'm looking for. I'm trying out iBank and Budget now and I'll report back.

If anyone else has any suggestions that would be great. :)
