So 1.7 dropped this morning, apparently. Waiting for Brad's all clear to update, but looking forward to playing with pistons! Slimecoins even have an actual use in building now!

Oof. We'll need to update Bukkit, of course, and some of the plugins as applicable. I'll be keeping an eye out for those update, which could be a few more days.

I'm heading out of town for a friend's wedding this weekend. So, even if the supported Bukkit build and plugins drop tonight, I might not have everything tested and ready to upgrade until early next week.

1.7 still has some very serious bugs: right clicking a sheep with an open hand crashes the game and corrupts the world file. Using a piston to push redstone/water/lava/torch/pumpkin/snow also crashes the game.

They're serious enough that there will probably be a .1 later today or tomorrow, but for now, careful...

Oh, and TNT is now safer: can't punch it to set it off anymore. That will help a lot with my research...

May as well post the official list of changes too:

• Added pistons.
• Fire or redstone is now required to trigger TNT.
• Fences can be stacked.
• Added shears.
• Shears can be used to pick up leaf blocks.
• Shears can be used to shear sheep without hurting them.
• Sheep no longer drop wool from being punched.
• New textures for Cobblestone and Brick blocks.

Pistons, shmistons. Leaf blocks! Now I'll be able to build the Overlook Hotel (or at least the maze) without using janky green wool. :)

In keeping with the normal update routine, Notch has already updated to 1.7_01 (see what he did there?) to fix a few bugs.

Put up 1.7_01, fixing the right clicking on sheep, and the piston crash, and makes crashed worlds loadable again. Client and server. Also, we removed Herobrine again in 1.7_01

Not like there are any major national holidays coming up...

I know, I mean Canada Day is pretty huge, amirite?

Canada Day is more like National Moving Day. And I'm celebrating this year again... Fucking boxes.

I know, right? The billybobsky's been at Penn for too damn long holiday comes around way too frequently disrupting all sorts of productive work.

Um, did Notch jank some automatic upgrade? Because I just tried to log in and it gave me an "outdated server" message. I sure as fuck didn't update my client. :err:

NOTCH!!!

I like my holiday better. It's almost like the "meet your potential new family" holiday.

Well, there's your problem, bb. You just need to find yourself one or more sultry dominatrices. Academia is probably full of them! You might even find a panel of judges to give your body of work a peer review.

Anyway, I'm off for a weekend full of motorcycles, merrymaking, and sensual enjoyments. It will be a cavalcade of good times, and I hope all your weekends are the same (at least with regards to the merrymaking?).

Not on my end...Huh. I'm sure I didn't click on the update button. :|

Anyone have a 1.6.x installer that I can borrow? :D

Brad

No autoupdate here either. :)

I'll zip up the 1.6.6 files and PM a link to you in a few minutes...

Got 'em. Thanks much. :)

[edit]: autoupdated again, twice. wtf?

Are you using the old launcher app? When you open Minecraft.app, does it go straight to the menu, or do you see the news feed?

If the former, you have the months-old app that autoupdates without prompting. Go download the current app (http://www.minecraft.net/download.jsp). If the latter, then something strange is afoot.

This is what you should see if you have the current version:

Oh, and if you download the current version and for some reason the app seems to not actually launch, you may need fix the executable bit like this from Terminal.app:

chmod +x /Users/bradsmith/Desktop/Minecraft.app/Contents/MacOS/JavaApplicationStub

Adjust the path as necessary to drill into the Minecraft.app. Then try reopening the app.

That was it. Quicksilver was finding an old version of the launcher in my Downloads folder. :\

All is good now. Crisis averted! :D

I actually keep my MC files in my Dropbox so I can revert back at any time. :) Plus, playing on my Beast or MBP are the same. :

Question: Should I be on 1.7.2 or 1.7.3? I've held off pressing update in case it broke everything.

Brad
2011-07-18, 21:21
Go ahead to 1.7.3.

turtle
2011-07-18, 22:18
Really, I'm still running 1.7.2...

Brad
2011-07-18, 22:33
1.7.3 was mostly a server fix, but there are some small client fixes too. 1.7.3 server is what fixed the piston duplication glitch. No reason not to update now.
