Super Mega Holp!

::flaregun::

I'm using a JQuery slideshow called Cycle to serve up some slides on a website and I keep getting reports that it's behaving oddly on SOME Windows boxes on SOME browsers. It's apparently doing some sort of "flashing" behavior with a quick flash of a reduced-size of the slideshow image....

Here's the site:
http://www.brookwoodgroup.com/

Here's the JQuery plugin:
http://jquery.malsup.com/cycle/

Anybody got ANY idea what's going on here?

I'd hate to sniff for Flash and serve it up, but I may have to do that :(

Cannot reproduce in IE 9 or Firefox 10 on Windows Server 2008. Do you have something more specific than "some browsers"?

Thank you Chucker.
A friend was able to reproduce the problem in IE7 last night - other than that I'm STILL trying to get these spurious reporters to provide me with browser versions for my investigation.

If I can find them I will ping you via Twitter... as if you need someone bugging you to do free beta testing for them :/

Hm, I don't currently have a VM with IE 7… it's not the latest IE for any version of Windows (6 for 2000; 8 for XP / 2003), so sticking with it isn't a good idea.

Oh Ho!!
Okay, I've just gained access to 4 machines:

2 worked
Those two were running XP (one had service pack 1, the other service pack 2)
Both were running IE7

2 failed
Of those, they were both on IE8
One was running XP Professional service pack 3 - 2002
One was running Windows 7 Professional - service pack 1

I should have an XP SP3 machine with IE 8. Will check this weekend.

I have a Windows 7 (32-bit) VM, and it definitely flashed for me.

It's strange, though. I've used that plugin before too, and I've never seen it do that. :\

I think that I *may* have solved it.... applied dimensions to the anchor list element - IE can be really persnickety about that..... worked on one machine that was balking before.... trying others now.
