View Full Version : Photo Challenge Thread (PCT): Freedom
This months challenge will focus on the idea of freedom. This could take many forms and is very open ended, I'd just like to see what you consider freedom. :)
Rules are as usual, no heavy photo manipulation (B&W Conversion is permitted). Images must be taken during the challenge period (starting today). You can submit more than one photo, but you must let me know which one of your images you want as your final choice.
Here is my sample shot.

Images can be submitted from now till April 15th, 2012 at 12AM PST (Vancouver/Seattle/LA time zone). Good luck!
Thanks for the topic PB. Lots of possibilities in it.
Looking forward to this one...if only I can make it on time this time. :)

Do I smell Unsharp Mask, or is that eagle actually glowing??
I don't use photoshop, but in aperture it is called "definition." Yes the photo was over sharpened.

No offense: but it doesn't make the picture look better...
Well, we would have to see a before and after of the photo to make that judgement. ;)
Given the qualities of PB's photos, I would tend to have some confidence in his judgement on that score.

Let's put it this way ... if it looks better, then the original must have been terrible and given PB PM's photography skills, I think that that would be an extremely unlikely scenario -- hence, it doesn't look better with the processing...

Would get bonus points if the truck was also crossing the line. Or parked perpendicular or diagonal.
 I think that says rebel, not freedom Brad. Now put that truck on a muddy back road somewhere...

My idea of freedom.

Nice work, just a reminder that there are only a few days left to submit entries.
Mine was just a joke (with a smidgen of wanting to take that thing into west texas canyonlands with 10 gerry cans and a weeks' worth of food and water).
How about this for freedom!

I was also angling at the unbuttoned shorts. :err:
R rated photos will not be counted. :p

I was quite busy recently and the weather wasn't nice, so here's my last minute stop-gag entry:

A roll of rusty barbed wire lying in front of a former GDR watchtower (http://www.flickr.com/photos/iphotograph/5718834886/), once used to secure the former iron curtain...
Okay, I'm going to give people another 5 of days, only 3 entries... come on folks!

Oh me and my sick sense of humor.
Walked downstairs this morning and found a dried hatchet fish on the ground.
Sometimes freedom is a bitch.

Not sick... poetic.
Where's the photo though?
Thanks for the extension PB. I do intend to make an entry.
As do I...life is a bit chaotic to say the least for me right now. I do have one in mind and hope to capture it for this challenge.

I still haven't unpacked my camera. I know... but I've been living out of my suitcases for the last 1.5 months...
One way I see Freedom is access to education and opportunities to pursue knowledge as one would choose. Here at the Lucerne Natural History Museum. (This is my entry after previous attempts at entertainment.)

For a cycling enthusiast, this represents freedom.
Only a few more hours to go, get your shots in!
Not going to be able to make it this time. Sorry.
Okay, thanks everyone I'll be picking a winner within the next day or so.
I think each one of the chosen images says something about freedom. With that being said, the ones that speak to the subject the most in my mind are as follows:
Runner Up: Chinney. The image of a wheel speaks so strongly to freedom, without it, where would we be today? Very close, but the winning image just edges this entry from the top spot.
Winner: arteggio. Having the ability to enjoying what we have been given, to me this is the greatest symbol of freedom that we can enjoy. Thus this image is the winning photo.

Cool, thanks. :) I think I have an idea, but I'll let it percolate a little bit. Wednesday at latest.
Thanks PB and congrats to arteggio.
