View Full Version : Publicly Available Groups (No AppleOutsider)
If you click on "Preferences" and look towards the bottom of the options you have for your account, there is one about Usergroups Manager I believe. You can now join publicly available usergroups if available. Currently, was have the "No AppleOutsider" group created, so you people can now control your own dose of AO.

ps...will you call this the "pscates and gelding modification" since we are the ones who opt out of AO from time to time
Go to your user prefs and see what we named the group for yourself :p
appleoutsider has been pretty toothless here. that would have been one i'd have joined at .com

That's cause there isn't one ;)

Bump. Does this work anymore or is it broken? I joined to group to see if I could still post in AppleOutsider and I can, even with the modification.
It's been broken from the start. We have to assign it to a user as the *default* usergroup because, if I recall correctly, vBulletin uses an OR operator when combining usergroup permissions.
I'll try to remember to look into this later tonight.
What are the purposes of these groups? The AO one is obvious...but the other isn't. Is it just a commonplace thing in other forums brought over to this one that serves no purpose? A forum appendix, if you will.

Yeah, I think it's pretty useless. Whoever added that has seen too many Boobies and it's warped his/her mind.

You'll have to look for yourself and figure it out. We won't give you the answer.
:D
I will say though, every group serves some purpose.
Do note, also, that there are several non-publicly-joinable groups that you'll never see there. For example, once you hit 1000 posts, the system automatically adds you to a group that can edit their user titles. When you have 3000 posts and have been here for a year, the system automatically adds you to a group that gives you posting access to Nova Bazaar.
...and so forth.

300 no? :)
Well, I was going to raise it to 3000 while alcimedes was all drugged out from his surgery today, but the little bugger just keeps on going! :D

Not to say that I'm not drugged out of my mind right now, but I can still read. :D
