I need to get into some mac file sharing, but the latest Bit Torrent client doesn't work with less than 10.3.

Help, someone point me to a client that works with 10.2.x

Thanks a million...

Tomato Torrent (http://www.sarwat.net/bittorrent/) should work with 10.2.8.

Have fun.

Thank you sir...

Any pointers for a BT neophyte?

Like for example, where do I find "torrents"

depending on what you are looking for. if illegal stuff, then the powers that be will probably mod out the links (i assume that it is still against posting guidelines). generally, you could try a supr search for astronomy dealies, like a nova, on some kind of organization's site. if you are looking for legit stuff, well, then i'm clueless. i've been told google is good for what ails ya.

Well thuh Freak, that's about as far as I'll let you go ;).

Asking about how and where to download pirated software and music is not encouraged. Neither is answering. What I WILL say is if you check out the official BitTorrent home page (http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/), there are a number of links to various torrent sites, many of which are legal. For example, a number of bands will freely distribute live recordings of their concerts (Phish is one I believe), and only charge for their high quality, studio-recorded music.

I used the official one and Tomato... but have settled with Azureus

http://azureus.sourceforge.net

By far the best client. Its Java, so it shoudl run on 10.1, 10.2, etc...

Just take your .torrent files, drag them onto the upper window, and thats it! You can now get rid of the dozens of .torrent files littering your desktop.

what are the differences between the official client and others?

Not to contravene the posting guidelines, really, I'm not trying to solicit training in the pirate's arts, not yet anyway ;)

I actually don't know how to use the damn program, I'm lost, which isn't hard to do. Part of the reason I like my mac, has to do with the ease of discovery.

I'm lost, any good online tutorials, with screen shots?

Actually, Azurus looks a lot easier, I'm having a problem configuring the port, I have a linksys 802.11b router, f that helps anyone understand what I may need to do.

Thanks a million.

The linksys router has a port forwarding page somewhere. Whatever your ip is (i.e. 192.168.1.101), forward the port range 6881-6889 to your ip.

you need to forward the ports you are using....

While there are a lot of "Arg! I'm a Pirate!" torrents on that supr web site, there is actually a very good range of legal torrents on there too. :)

There are two other well known and similar sites to nova, but generally if you want to avoid them just do a google search - including "torrent" in the search. "OpenOffice torrent" for example.
