Inspired by http://forums.applenova.com/showthread.php?t=5949 , especially FFTT's beautiful photo ( http://img92.echo.cx/img92/6986/g5dellg39wq.jpg ), I started lusting after a 20 inch widescreen TFT to replace my venerable high-quality but tiny Sony 15 inch CRT (yes, laugh all you like, but it's almost 11 years old and still works well :P ).
Looking around at different brands like Samsung and Acer, the only two displays that seemed to even be close to my expectations were the ones from Apple and DELL. I didn't find any other ones that were widescreen at all; they were usually 1600x1200 or that horrible narrowscreen 1280x1024 resolution (yuck!).
On the German DELL web site, I couldn't find the product mentioned at all, so I presume I'd have to import it, which would be silly as I'm planning on moving to Canada anyway. I could find the DELL for as low as $499.99 (TigerDirect) on American Froogle (is there a good Canadian price comparison site for high tech items?). The Apple seems a lot more expensive; I couldn't get it any lower than ca. $750, and on German online shops, no lower than €730 even with education pricing.
1) If I could get the Apple for some 6xx Dollar or Euro price, then I would take it, so if someone knows of any offers, that'd be great.
2) Any means of getting the DELL shipped to Germany without complications? What about the warranty?
3) Any other displays with the same panel? How come good widescreen TFTs still seem so rare? (I don't have the budget for EIZO, sorry ;) )
