Bad Religion - Let Them Eat War
there's a prophet on a mountain and he's making up dinner
with long division and writing crop
anybody can feel like a winner
when it's served up piping hot
but the people aren't looking for a handout
they're America's working corps
can this be what they voted for?
let them eat war [x2]
that's how to ration the poor
let them eat war [x2]
there's an urgent need to feed
declining crime
from the force to the union shops
the war economy is making new jobs
but the people who benefit most
are breaking bread with their benevolent hosts
you never stole from the rich to give to the poor
all they ever gave to them was a war
and a foreign enemy to deplore
let them eat war [x2]
that's how to ration the poor
let them eat war [x2]
there's an urgent need to feed
declining crime
we've got to kill 'em in the end
before they reach for their checks
squeeze some blue collars
let them bleed from their necks
seize a few dollars from the people who sweat
cause it's freedom or death and they won't question it
at a job site the boss is god like
conditioned workhorses park at a stoplight
seasoned vets with their feet in nets
a stones throw away from a rock fight
but not tonight, feed Ôem death
here comes another ration (feed them death)
cause they're the finest in the nation (feed them death)
but there's nothing left to feed them
when it's freedom or it's death
let them eat war [x2]
that's how to ration the poor
let them eat war [x2]
there's an urgent need to feed

I thought the same thing, but the more I listen to Dinosaur Sounds the more I like it. It's not old school Catch 22, but it's good. :)
Oh you might want to check out Streetlight Manifesto if you haven't already. It's 3 guys from Keasby Nights era Catch including Thomas who wrote all the songs on KN. Saw them live a month ago and they rock hard.

Ha! What timing.
Listening to Oscillate Wildly by The Smiths (though I don't own the CD, just the one track). And I know what you mean about their fans. I used to date a girl in high school who had a wickedly sarcastic sense of humor but who always seemed on the edge of manic depression. Got old fast...

Allman Brothers Band – Live at Fillmore East.
A blast from my past. Even an oldie like me was pretty young when this was released, but I remember it. It is as much blues as rock – and certainly a bit of a dated product of its time, such as the 15-minute guitar solos. But there is no mistaking Duane’s talent. Too bad he died so young.

Yes, I am aware that the first sentence was the king of run on sentences.)
I just put the CD in my computer and imported it with iTunes anyways, and it imported the whole thing just fine. Amazing.

I'm listening to William Shatner's new song: http://www.shoutfactory.com/av/common_people.mov
I'm listening to (and watching on DVD (http://www.rads25.com/) ) my favorite rock and roll band on the planet, the Radiators from New Orleans.
Right now they're doing a cover of an obscure Bob Dylan song called Little Sadie (http://bobdylan.com/songs/sadie.html) with several special guests sitting in, including the best trombone player I've ever seen (http://www.google.com/search?q=mark+mullins+trombone&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8), Mark Mullins from New Orleans, who plays with the Harry Connick Jr. Big Band when he's not doing his own thing (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&q=mark+mullins+bonerama&btnG=Search) or playing with the RADS. They've also got a new orleans bass player from The Funky Meters sitting in, that Paul McCartney called the best bass player on the planet (http://www.nipp.com/infoband.asp?txtid=1736) by the name of George Porter Jr.
Anyway, since I've been typing this rant, the DVD moved on to a song called Confidential, which was recorded on Epic Records in the late 1980's and is of course available on the iTMS (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=1168390&selectedItemId=1168387)
It was actually a pretty big college radio hit in its day. Also, there is only one American band that has recorded on a major label and had kept all of its founding members longer than the Rads (26.5 years so far) and that is Los Lobos.
In short, if you like Little Feat, The Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers, Government Mule (the Rads were the band that played Warren Haynes' Wedding) Stevie Ray Vaughn, The Rolling Stones, Van Morrison, Widespread Panic, Phish, or anything resembling "jamband roots blues rock", you will love this band, and if you ever have the chance to see them LIVE (http://www.theradiators.org/calendar.html), I promise that you will want to thank me.

A rough (GarageBand) recording of a new song for my band, The Texas Chainsaw Manicure, that me and my guitar player are working on.
We're doing this for fun because practice got cancelled two days in a row, the only problem with this is we're using fruity loops drums. We're recording an EP in November, I'm stoked.

I saw The Skatalites live not to long ago... my firend's band played with them here in Toronto.
It had to be the best Ska show I have ever seen... The Skatalites were in their age but played like they were 20...
I'm a huge Ska fan... and so is HOM if you ever get a chance to chat with him about Ska.
90% of the music on my computer is Ska... and I just can't get enough.
Right now my speakers are blasting:
Don Tojo -- The New York Ska Jazz Ensemble
(and BTW, it's funny that you consider Big D (who I have also seen live -- and they put on a kick ass show) ska music... not to bicker but they are a bit more on the Punk with highlights of Ska side if anything... hehehe... JK HOM )
Original of the Species, off of U2's How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb. Bought the album on iTMS last week. Awesome album.

I listened to a lot of Ska around '96 - '97 but once the national popularity died down so did the frequency of quality acts coming to my town. I agree that the Skatalites really know how to throw it down, they played two 45 min. sets when I saw them and I danced till my legs turned to jelly. If you haven't heard Laurel Aitken I'd suggest you check his stuff out, he was a pioneering Jamaican artist and is probably my favorite.:)
Also, if there are any Pixies fans on AN they're playing tonight on Letterman.
