Wondering if it's worth trading in iMac FP15" 700/Combo for a mini.
Local dealer will pretty much give a straight exchange for the 1.42 model.

However, I'd have to dish out probably an extra $450 for a keyboard, mouse and 17" LCD display.

Advantages:
-Larger screen (can be used with future laptop)
-Faster processor (almost double)
-USB 2.0 vs. USB 1.1
-Better Video Card(?) not sure about this
-quieter?

Disadvantages:
-lamp iMac looks cooler

Any comments? :)

are you unhappy with your iMac FP?? could you get more than 599 for it?

if you are unhappy and don't think you can get more than 600 than go for it

My FP iMac has served me well. But the 15" display is rather limiting and even with 512MB of RAM, it's starting to really chug along slowly.

My dealer will give me $650 (Cdn) for it. The mini is $750 (Cdn) so it's kind of a wash.

Well, it might cost more than that. You'll definitely have to upgrade the mini's RAM to 512MB if you want to see any decent performance out of it.

Get the 1.25 and use the $ difference to put more RAM into it (perhaps 3rd party).

You'll probably see more benefit from max RAM in a 1.25 than a stock 1.42 with its 7% faster CPU and potentially slower HD (read the Mini threads), at least in a bang for the buck sense.

You should be able to sell that iMac for more on eBay...

I had an iMac G4 700 for awhile. I think my new mini 1.42 is louder, for what it's worth. The sound from the iMac fan just seemed less noticeable to me.

Interesting comment iDaver...cuz I've always thought my iMac was rather noisy.
Almost like a refridgerator humming. But somehow I think mine is defective as others I've heard were as you say, were very quiet.

Man, thats what im usuing now. I didnt think it chugs along slowly. Anyways, serious question: how would the speed differnce be between these two computers? m O've never upgraded and had the same generation processor.

Well it's all relative. It might be because I recently got hooked up with a G5 Dual 2.0 Ghz at work. So when I go home, that 700mhz G4 is comparatively slow.
